Should I sell my airhead to get a Harley

Am I crazy. I have the sudden urge to dump my R90/6 and get a Harley ..

Ok .. I'm ready to hear it ...

Let's see a picture of the current bike and of what you want to trade it for. I'm personally not a harley hater but do think some are kind of ugly/stereotypical. I don't own a BMW but think the uniqueness of an opposed german twin may outweigh the fairly common v-twin. But then again I get the new toy itch pretty often myself...

Sure why not, The newer the better as 09 and newer bikes have a bigger better frame, Brembo ABS brakes. Fuel injection and great reliability. I suggest renting for a day whatever model family is on your short list. I am riding the FLHTC and every one has been better than the last.

Harley dealers are in nearly every city and small town. Parts and good techs are easily found. I really like the creature comfort and good stereo. They get great fuel mileage when ridden at or near the limits. I am on my eighth FLHTC since 1986 after moving from Gold Wings. I ride about 20,000 miles per year and mostly have been able to do reasonable maintainance with no substantial issues.

They are good comfortable and reliable. What is not to like. Enjoy.

You just have to get a new toy now and then. Again it all depends on what you like. I have owned many air heads, oil heads, K bikes, and Harley's. All of them are fun and have their own persona.

So are you crazy? Maybe not.

Yes. The Harleys are better engineered by folks with some common sense. By all means, go for it...or do what I did...get both...I'm new to Beemers, NOT new to Harleys, and the first time you do an oil change, you'll find out what I'm atalkin' about...

OK. I'm on beer #4 and my team is paying in the Superbowl tomorrow (WHO DAT!!). I've got a 1977 R100S and a few months ago I thought, "I own too much and I need to unload some things". The first thing I thought I might get rid of was my BMW. So I put it on eBay and it didn't get what I thought it should. That was just a few months ago, and man, am I glad it didn't sell. I brought it up the Smokies with me last November and I had great time riding it. After 250 miles in the mountains, I was pulling into the driveway of our cabin I hit a patch leaves and lost the front tire. Cracked the fairing and the valve cover so dissassembly to repair the damage and rediscovered the elegant simplicity of these machines. All I can say is I am so glad nobody offered enoough money to part with this bike. It is repaired now and looks better than it did before and I'm making plans to ride it to the Barber Vintage Fest in October!

Harleys are all American and I fully understand wanting to experience the American motorcycle. But I suggest you don't sell your Airhead to do it. Eaglerider is a great way to make sure before you make a final decision.

Who cares? The worst that can happen is you'll have a broader education.

If you have a significant other who packs with you, she'll prolly prefer the sewing machine...although the new Harleys are VERY smooth also...I agree with the other guys, get whatever makes your heart pitter patter, and remember that if you don't like it, you can always get another Beemer, but both are best...They are apples and oranges to the extreme...

Go Guzzi and split the difference

Get the Harley but keep the R90.

I rode out to Sturgis last summer and had a couple of hundred thousand of them rattle my ribcage in concert - an experience to be had at least once, but I was glad to head home on my own ride.

Why wouldn't you? You can ride it until something else tickles your fancy, it's not like there will never be any used BMW's on the market again.

Life's short, get all the good riding in while you can.

I've had 3 of them - liked the Low Rider the best. Traded a Road King for a Uly and have never been happier with a bike. YMMV, and by all means, do what you want.

Or rather maybe. it depends on what you are looking for.

But one thing to think about.

Your BMW is not going to lose value. at least not that much.

You can't say that about a Harley right now. That said there has never been a better time to buy
a used Harley.

If you're looking for a bike to cruise on
get a Road King

If your looking for a bike to really ride and enjoy
Get a Dyna or a FXR

If your looking for a "small" bike that's fun to ride get a sporty

If your looking to look like an old man
Get a E-glide.
Harley ownership is totally
different then owning anything else. I say if someone is wondering about it, they should do it. just to experience it.

It's not should you, it's do you want to. I purchased my first Harley last year 09 Road King and could not be happier. My Buds who ride imports don't get it and the guys who ride Harley s think it took to long to get one. This bike makes me feel nineteen again like I'm riding my old 76 Honda SOHC 750F, it must be some kind of Zen thing.

Just don't forget everything that has been said about Harley's have some truth to it, good and bad.

As a person, in Tacoma, who likes checking craigslist for r90s...go for it.

But I might be biased.

I was thinking of a FXR but will be looking on CL for that smoking deal that ran when parked just needs carbs cleaned.
