There are many downsides to having just a part-time job but there are also advantages, today I took advantage of not working today and went out for a ride in the snow. The worst part was getting out of Bristol as there was carnage of nearly every hill but eventually I got out to the good roads....... and then onto the first lane..... soon I came to this ford and you can see that the farmer had been through earlier so I took the plunge.... I then rode over a bridge across the M4 to see all the traffic following two snow ploughs at a steady 25mph This is the B4039 and it was pretty hairy in places where the snow was compacted so I stuck to the deeper stuff with legs acting as outriggers..... Next was Summer Lane which didn't look all that summery........ and then onto the Fosseway, I was suprised to see that no one else had been up here........ next was a byway just off the Fosse........ I know that the surface on this one can be a bit rough but I got through OK only to drop it as I rejoined the tarmac road then I circled around to rejoin the Fosse and down over the hill to cross the River Avon.... there I found that the authorities have put up some new information boards I went to have a look at the other info board but the snow on it was so deep (and cold) that I decided to leave it until I'm up this way next time........ While there I took advantage of a handy fence-post to get a self-timer shot....... and then it was back down the Fosse and head for home...... After a nice hot shower I soon thawed out and reflected on a great day out cheers, Bob.
Looks like a good time. I can remember having some good times on the snow. My wife and I used to take turns pulling each other on the tobbogan sled. It was difficult to steer, because the rope (being attached to the rear frame) caused the little XL185 to continuously wheelie. The person on the sled ate lots of snow. Cheers, for not letting a little white stuff keep you indoors!
'legs as outriggers'......... surely you mean leg as outrigger!!!!!!!! Looks a good day out Bob, took me two and a half hours to get across to Kingswood in the Van, just got stuck on the last 100yds of Tickenham hill, (run out of tyres) luckily dude behind in a 4 wheel drive L200 pulled us up the last bit, so was able to get a bit of work done. Fun enough in the van, but rather be doing your trip.
I wanted to go out yesterday, but couldn't convince anyone to come.......fair play for riding on your own anyway!! good pics mate!

Nice run Bob. What size is your Suzuki? By the time I got back from taking the dog out just couldn't be arsed doing it all again on a bike Ten inches in the local forestry was a bit tricky for the wee mutt but she loved it
Great photos, just a quick question though, do you need winter sports insurance for riding in snow, I'd love to have a go myself but want to make sure I have the right sort of cover before I set out,
