Got a favorite scotch? Name your poison

My brother came in for Thanksgiving bearing a bottle of Talisker scotch. Never was much of a scotch drinker but that variety was pretty good. Wondering now about other single malt scotches.

The MaCallan - I've only had the 12yr, but it's got a nice sweet caramel after taste. It's my favorite singlemalt that I've had.

Not really, Even though I am Irish and Spanish (Spain, not mheecho) I am a Jack Daniels drinker when I drink hard stuff.

Is makers Mark a Scotch Whisky? If so then Yes, that is my fav scotch...

Bowmores Islay, 15 year old single malt. It is a bit strong flavore-wise, but I enjoy it.

Glenlivet

Oban or Johnnie Walker Green Label.

Lagavulin or Glenfiddich

Bought the latter today at the Duty Free as I crossed back into the US.

Washington State has the highest liquor taxes in the country.

I'm happy with any of those. I buy a bottle for my old man every year for his birthday in November so that we'll have some around come Christmas at his house.

Macallan 18...nothin' better in my book.

Tried the 24 but it was too smooth for me.

MM is bourbon

If you like Talisker try something a little stronger from Islay. I'd highly recommend Ardbeg Uigeadail, Laphroiag Quarter Cask and Lagavulin 16. If you're not so into peat, I really like The Balvenie Double Wood and 15 Single Barrel.

Just start tasting stuff and you'll find what you like soon enough!

Talisker beats any of the glens in my book. I'm a big fan. Going to have to see if any of these are available near me.

Whatever you do, DON'T stay away from the cask strength --- it is a full scale whisky experience; its great taste just blows up in your mouth and then it warms all the way down.

Aformentioned Balvenie Double Wood is very good. Generally speyside is good in reasonably affordable whiskys. I've no experience with the high-enders.

We obviously have different tastes -- you can take Talisker and the other Islay whiskies away for all I care.

I also like a good Irish, Redbreast in particular.

I just re-read my post and it might be misleading. Talisker is from the Isle of Skye, and it's the only distillery there. Islay is an island a bit further South down the West coast of Scotland with eight different distilleries.

Oh I never would pay 100 bucks per liter (approximately) for any libation. My brothers part in the Thanksgiving was to supply the drinks. He chose Talisker. The only scotch I had sampled previously was Chvas, Johnny Walker (red and black) and Dewar's. I may have also sampled Cutty Sark. I have found that my tastes are evolving...used to drink gin almost exclusively, some times bourbon with a chase. Then discovered that bourbon absolutely tastes best over ice with a splash of water. The recent sampling of the Talisker (also over ice with a splash) got me thinking that I may actually prefer the taste of scotch over bourbon

WTF do you know about it anyway?



P.S. Vern and I crushed a bottle of Laphroig 10 a few weeks ago. It was way better than I remembered.
