My riding partners bagged on me today, so I did some Solo Lolo Therapy in the Forest Today. I took off from Parkdale around 11am today onto Lolo Pass Road to Zig Zag. On a day like today, when my ride STARTS with a one lane paved Forest Road........... It's gonna be a good day Even the Power Lines are pretty today. The top of the Pass with the Pacific Crest Trail: Bicyclists are DEFINITELY NOT welcome here! After a good lunch at Zig Zag Deli, I head over towards Trillium Lake on the back side of "Tom Dick & Harry Mountain" (really, that's the name ) An old bridge is out on a side road...... I enjoy the Wilderness. I'm sure glad we have 'em. I'm glad I can RIDE their edges to see 'em without too much effort. The North edge of Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness: Not a spec of gravel on this GREAT dirt road. This road ends up looking like this...... Right before it gets to this serene little mountain lake One road, it goes nowhere else, just to this little lake. About 20 miles in from Trillium Lake and I didn't see another soul. Awesome. At CJ's Chevron, I run into these two heading to the big BMW event in Central Oregon. They're from Michigan. They rode West on this GS1200, taking their sweet time, and North to Prudhoe Bay Alaska. Then they spent some time in the Washington Cascades, before they headed South to Oregon for this BMW event. He figures they'll pass over 12,000 miles away before they get back home. I then head East a bit to FS 43, then East some more on FS48 I've never been to Badger Creek Wilderness from the South side. Today's the day. The roads are a little more "interesting" here. Nice green meadows on the South Badger Wilderness border: I didn't go into the middle of the Wilderness to see Badger lake this time, it was getting pretty late. Instead I went past Camp Windy, to the West Badger Wilderness border. The West border had the worst (best?) road yet. Just above Jean Lake I sensed Sunset coming......... So I stopped and climbed to the top of this HUGE natural flat rock pile mountain. Yep. I should have left sooner, but I couldn't leave this place for quite a while. Even St. Helens was in view What is it about these flowers I like so much? Hmmmm............ It's time to haul a$$ towards home now, gettin' dark. Good thing it's close. Very good thing. 'Cause I LOVE it here
Good job Apple Jam - - - About those flowers you like so much, it's cause they are manly man flowers - bear grass. Myself I like these girly foo foo flowers You all know I'm taking notes - saving ride reports and one of these days I'm going to be tapping you on the shoulder and saying show me this ride. Oh yeah and when you get stuck with me you have to ride at a snails pace cause I'm slow, taking time to enjoy the flowers. Very nice report - thanks for taking the time to share it with the rest of us.
Manly man; with hauntingly familiar "shape" It's a bonus when flowers that look like those grow wild Will gladly do! Nothing beats it, for sure. I'm sorry I only got one crappy picture of a too-small ADV sticker. I have to start making those stickers pose in the frame better.
