Hi All Did try and search the Index, could not find exactly what I need !!! (Maybe I am not good at Indexes - sorry if this is a repost of an already covered topic !!) Could anyone of you tell me what needs to be done to put the high fender on a 2005 640 ADV alla Flanny's adv !!! What can be done about the brake line going to the second brake callipper, when one removes the low fender. (I see Flanny's has a single front disc ??? - I am a newbee !!) Which high fender should one buy, as I doubt KTM sells a 640 ADV one (Metallic Orange) Does the standard general fork protectors fit on the ADV or do I need a special order again. Thanks people !! JAS PS - I prefer Ideas that will not rock my pocket too much, very much in line with Creeper's 2005 ADV performance tweeks !! (I know I am picky ) <!-- / message -->
I THINK some guys have used a SX fender (comes in orange too!). A single disc is all you need. Measure and buy a new steel braided brake line for the left side of the wheel and lose the right caliper. If you must keep both calipers then I think will probably need two new brake lines and I would go with a different set up at the master cylinder to make it work bitchin'. You can set it up so both lines go directly to the master cylinder so there is no "t" in the line, giving you more braking power, although, like I said before you dont need it.... PM surfphoto he has his 05 set up the way you want yours.
JAS, I have ordered the parts to adapt my 640, and I know it's not a big job. The biggest step is bleeding the brakes. If you keep both discs on the front, you need to run a second full-length brake line from the right side caliper up to the master cylinder so you can get rid of the cross-over. Then you need to come up with some fork-guards. I think the ones to use are from another KTM model, like the the 85 SX. It's not an exact fit but it's close. Also, you'll need some guides for the brake lines, KTM parts worked for me when I did this to a different bike. As for the fender, you could go with any KTM front fender, some people like the supermoto version, I prefer the full-sized MX version for it's extra radiator protection. Of course, Touratech sells a kit that has all you need, it's made for the 950 but as far as I know, it would adapt just fine. I went to my local dealer with a list of parts to get rid of the cross-over line but I plan to keep the low fender in place. Will.
Thank you for checking the index, and saying so I guess this is an issue? Some stuff: (sorry but I will use your thread as my repository of high fender links ) Mack http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1448517&postcount=34 more about dual discs but... http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85710 creeper's acerbis SM fender http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84821 lots in this: dig dig dig http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73089 more? http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83483 http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72445 all for now.
I purchased my AADV already converted, DALBY Moto here are the Australian specialists at setting up KTM Adventure bikes, 640s and 950s. They supply the bit's as a kit, contact them and see what you get.
Oz, that bike just looks friggin' tuff. What kind of tires are you sporting in that pic? Do they suck on the street?
The tires are Dunlop D606 front and rear. They handle both the dirt and the Tar rather well. I ride 70 / 30 dirt tar. Wear has been fair on the rear, 2000km and the front now has 3000+km. Dunlop has a new tire released that is apparently in competittion to the Michelin Desert and Baja. I am yet to try it. A harder version of the D606 I was told.
JUst fitted a genuine ktm high guard kit see pics Everything is in the kit even new washers for the brake banjos. Yes I just relised that brake line is on the wrong side will fix that. MIKE
I had mine converted to a signle front disk for a local rally , the easy way. It DOESN'T work! What we did was the obvious. We just took out the right caliper and used its screw on the left for the cable to connect. The pump is very strong , as it is designed for operating with 2 brakes , and braking on loose surfaces has now become an act of balance and precision. Squeeze it a bit much and you loose it , don't squeeze it and you never stop! What I suggest is using both front calipers. Look here: www.ktm-sommer.de These guys have a high front fender conversion for the 640. As far as fork guards and the rest is conserned: I used fork-guards designed for Husqvarna, the 640 Enduro guads were not even close to mounting on the forks, even if modified somehow. The holes point to comletely different directions. I do not know about the SX models' suspension. The front fender is a 2 piece Acerbis universal (orange + black ) which was simply bolted below the "bridge" provided. I'll post photos later.
What does the kit do for the two brake lines? Does it run one from the master cylinder to a splitter or does it use two brake lines all the way from the master cylinder? I assume there is some kind of an adaptor to mount those lower guards with a different bolt pattern? Is the kit still twice the cost of the touratech kit? Thanks for posting. I switched to one disk in the front but have decided to either go back to two or change out the master cyclinder for the correct ratio.
The double banjo bolt from the left side front disc goes up to the master cylinder. this line runs down the right fork as per previous pics. Cost was $415 Aus with tax 10% included that would be $283 US at current exchange rate no tax. Dont touch Touratech myself after Uk Boss Plumb the guy from "Road to Dakar" told us there would be a two year wait for KTM parts because BMW was now so popular. anyway there just to expensive. yes there is an adaptor plate that attaches to the original low guard mounts and also uses the blanked out bolt hole the one full of black plastic. MIKE
Leipsippos, I was riding with an 06 rider last weekend who had converted to one disc, and it DOES work! You simply have to swap out the master cylinder for a model that is used with one front disc. The folks in this thread may not have posted that bit, but look at my post above for links to other threads that certainly have that info. BTW, he converted to one because he found 2 to be TOO POWERFUL offroad, which is probably why you were contemplating loosing one eh?
Helo, I need some help :) I understand from this thread that this high fender kit is from KTM power parts? My KTM dealer is telling me that such thing does not exist. I pritty sure I ve seen this on KTM web site few months ago but now it dessapeard (?). I see this part on ktm-sommer but they have different part numbers, then those used by ktm. Could enybody confirm me thet the high fender kit is from KTM power parts and give me the part number? Thanx maciek
So the Husky fork guards were a straight bolt on to all three holes?........how about a part numbe?.....please.....
OK, found it in the orange crush section; it's the same part as in the big ktm ant the numbers are.... PN# <st1:City w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Orange</st1lace></st1:City> 6000851004404 PN# Black 6000851004430 maciek<o></o>
