Got this in an email from the Rollins Pass Restoration Association:

    ATTENTION BOULDER COUNTY RESIDENTS

The Boulder County Commissioners have scheduled a public hearing for Thursday, February 13 beginning at 5 pm in the Hearing Room on the Third Floor of the Boulder County Courthouse.

The purpose of the hearing is to take public testimony on opening the Rollins Pass Road. This testimony will give the Board important information regarding support for the reopening of the road and will help better define impacts associated with this proposal.

All are more than welcome to attend and participate. The hearing will also be webcast live and will be achieved for viewing at a later time. The website for watching the hearing is http://www.bouldercounty.org/gov/meetings/pages/hearings.aspx .

Just for clarity's sake-- this meeting is open to those of us who aren't Boulder County residents?

Like with voting here in CO - just state your intent to live there at some future time....

In boulder it is considered racist disenfranchisement to ask for any form of I.D.

Dang. Interesting.. I had always thought this was a lost cause. Thanks for the heads up. I will try to attend.

I am curious though, I had thought that this was all USFS area under the management of BRD? Are the closed parts actually on BoCo land?

PS - COHVCO just sent out an action note on this.

I'm planning on attending. This would be a great way to get out of Boulder County on a dirtbike.

I'll just say we should thank Steve (Estaban) for his work on this in the past.

That would be awesome if this gets opened.
I'd get that listed asap on our next map re-print!

No it's federal land but Boulder County sure has a heavy hand in what happens. like anything in life, whomever pushes the hardest tends to prevail. a packed to the gills room of people supporting the re-opening will send a loud and clear message to the elected commissioners.

i'd assume the railroad enthusiast group has been notified too.
they are a key ally and even have $ set aside for tunnel improvements.

i'm also wondering if some in the MTB community should also be contacted?
i wondering how the support for an opening is with those guys?
MTB access & users are often restricted too in Boulder CO.
i know you can get around w/ a MTB but some might be interested in easier access through the tunnel. i'm sure MTBers on the west side/Winter Park would be interested. even just one shop and a few MTB talking at the meeting would show the commissioners it's really a wide group who wants this open. even some key MTB plants from the ADV community would work if nothing else.

It would only be completely awesome if Rollins Pass were to open in the near future. Ever since I learned of it, I've been somewhat bummed one can't actually go all the way to Winter Park.

I can't attend the meeting, but I'll certainly sign anything I need to sign or send emails!

The Boulder County link does not show the meeting date. Cant confirm it on their site to make sure date and time is correct. Can anyone pull it up on the Boulder County site?

I've added it to my calendar. I went to the Grand County Courthouse with Steve & a bunch of other ADV types and the railroad folks a few years ago to talk about reopening the pass. Very interesting and informative. I'll do my best to attend.

Couldn't we play like the greenies and sue the FS and BoCo for the right of way set up by the Feds when Wilderness was created? And get the costs paid for by them when they lose. Grand and Gilpin might join in.
