I have several pairs of AUXilliary lights, PIAA, HELLA, etc laying about. Is there available an off the shelf,pre-fabricated mounting bracket, to affix fog or driving LAMPS to an F800GS?. Thanks. . .edit: BIKE is 2013, F800GS. .
As Charlie said, the OEM bracket can fairly easily be adapted to work with non-OEM lights. I did just that with Denali D2D lights and I'm very happy with them. I just wanted to point out that the 2013 model F800GS has the turn signals up much higher than they were on earlier models so the brackets I found for those earlier models didn't work on the 2013, causing the lights to block the turn signals. As much as I wanted to find a cheaper solution, I was unable to, and now that the pain of the dreadfully expensive OEM brackets has passed, I'm happy I bought them. They mount to the bike in two places under the left and right panels and the business end of the bracket sticks out in front at just the right location. And I've dropped my bike several times now (off-road) and the lights haven't been touched at all. (Up here in Canada, those brackets were $160!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Good luck.
$160 the pair, or EACH ?? Of course, with the high standard(s) of living, you Canadians can afford such largesse. An impoverished Gringo might need to sell a kidney, or extra child to mount light brackets.
I came up with this old (but most recent) thread because I am looking for the same bracket or bar to mount a pair of LED lights. I found the one in the Kildala's Motorcycle Farkles thread in Vendors, but I'm not sure about the Mickey Mouse ears look. I used to own a set of Flooter lights from Wunderlich that came with a bracket, and I am going to check to see if their bracket is available separately. Both of those fit between the beak and the side panels. I recall a set of brackets that mount in place of the recessed screw in the side panel below the windscreen. I can't find that, and perhaps it was part of a light set. Are there others? Fred
Kildala makes the only one I have seen, but I understand what you mean about the mickey ears. Photos are here somewhere: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=435057&page=2
Several calls to the BMW dealer have NEGATIVE results. Do you have part number for these Aux Light Mounting brackets ? Can you confirm they will fit the 2013 model F800 ? Thank you.
I don't have a part number, but I know my dealer had a hard time finding the in the fiche. I think they are listed under 'retrofit kits' and not with the lighting. I do know they will fit the 2013 model because I have them on mine.
You're reading my mind, Dean! On the hunt for the same. Was going to go the factory light route, but too rich for my blood. The brackets are $150 for a set, and they don't allow for azimuth adjustment, only elevation. I suppose that you could adjust the azimuth via shimming bracket, but it won't be convenient. I'm interested in being able to fan out a pair of driving lights, to light up the sides of the road("moose lights"). May see you at the shop tomorrow, as I'm looking to make a Homer run tomorrow. A few ideas here. http://www.twistedthrottle.com/shop...ary-headlights/auxiliary-headlight-mounts?p=1 Jeff
I use this one, as it gets rid of the Mickey Mouse look... From this thread Very happy with it. Here're some pics I took that show it with some D2s.
Looked in bmw fische F800 GS 13 (K72)found under accessories retrofit led driving light Brackets (pair) # 77518530686 http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=55258&rnd=04302013
Has anyone fitted these brackets to a pre 2013 f800gs? They look very well thought out, but I assume they will place the LED-Lights very near the turn signals on a pre 2013 model thus causing problem(?)
Update: An email from DesertSnakeOffroad advises that he is out of business pending his move to Latin America. Fred
Well, several of us have now (even in this thread) said that these brackets are SPECIFICALLY for the 2013 F800GS. They may or may not work with earlier models but I believe the plastic side panels on the 2013 are slightly different so there's a good chance they won't work. Both Charlie and I have them installed on our 2013's, and probably some other folks as well. For earlier years of this bike there are a greater choice of brackets available, because the front turn signals are down quite low. For 2013 BMW moved them up higher so most brackets (that aren't fork-mount) obscure the turn signals on the 2013 and therefore aren't suitable. If these brackets DO in fact fit older models, I would be concerned that they block the turn signals on those bikes. Twisted Throttle has some brackets which do work on earlier models. So bottom line, is that with the 2013 we need to get the lights down lower, but with earlier models they should be higher, in both cases to properly clear the turn signals. Hope this helps...
Black Dog also makes a mounting plate. http://blackdogcw.com/black-dog-shop/bike/bmw-f800gs/light-plate-for-bmw-f800gs-detail.html
the Blackdog mounting plate appears to mount the AUX lights directly in the forward of , and totally obscuring the front turn indicators on the 2013 F800. . . Until I find a better mount, Here is my stop-gap solution, ......
The tabs for mounting the aux lights place them in-line with the beak, whereas the turn signals are below it. I don't personally have the mount - but have some friends that did on their previous bikes. You could ask BDCW for some additional pics. I'm sure they would be happy to oblige.
