Well, yesterday I was attempting to remove the springs from my forks on my F800GS. When I tried to remove the bolt on the top to get the inner sanctum of my forks, the left side fork bolt stripped while using a 19mm 12 point socket. For some reason this thing was torqued way past 100ft lbs, this I know because I was using a torque wrench to unbolt it. I thought this thing was only supposed to be torqued to 20nm? :huh I guess my real question is there any place to purchase one of these other than BMW? They are asking $67. I am trying to talk to Marzocchi as well. Already checked BikeBandit.
I hope you loosened the top fork clamp before removing the cap. The clamp will compress the tube onto the cap. You might look at thet 2008 husky 610. They went to the no adjustum forks after BMW bought them. Then again they are now owned by BMW.
Yeah, you have to loosen #4 in the pic below before you try to loosen #26, since #4 clamps down at the very top top of the fork where #26 threads in. Keep #20 at the bottom tight though, to keep the fork tubes from spinning or falling out of the triples as you loosen #26.
If only BMW had put it together properly, it wouldn't have been an issue. DOH!!!! The forks are not supposed to be flush.
