So some crazy bastard built a google maps mashup specifically for the zombie apocalypse. It maps population density as "danger zones" and includes icons for relevant stuff like hospitals/pharmacies, food/convenience/liquor stores, gun/hunting/camping/outdoor stores, etc. Zoom for more. http://www.mapofthedead.com/map/ Good stuff!
You'll notice the Yukon is Zombie free - after a winter like this, their poor, cold bodies would have frozen and shattered!
Perhaps not coincidentally, the Yukon is also largely human-free. Now- are there no zombies because there are no humans, or are there no humans because they all become zombies and then shattered in the ice? The mind boggles!
Yeah, they've got a fairly narrow requirement. I see it fine on Chrome, but I figure hey, it's free and it's awesome, who am I to gripe?
It just might push me to "explore" Chrome. Friends I forwarded it to said we are in A ZOMBIE HOTSPOT. You been generally happy with Chrome as a surfer? Can one keep Explorer and still run Chrome?
Man, Chrome is the best! It's fast, stable, free, works with everything, updates easily, totally easy to use... you'll never go back to IE once you're used to chrome It's a browser, so there's no reason you can't have it on your machine as well as IE and just use whichever one you like. I always like having more than one browser (I use Chrome and FireFox) so that if one doesn't work on something or just plain craps out for some reason I've got a backup to google how to fix the other one
Firefox. Can use less screen space, uses less memory, infinitely configurable through extensions, and it has gotten fast (used to be slow). That said, id take Chrome over IE any day. And, of course- Pensacola has one of the largest red spots on the map. Figures.
Firefox is very good too. At work, I work on FF, play on Chrome. At home, I mainly use FF, and Chrome is my backup for things that may FF puke. Both rock solid browsers. Not that it'll make a lick of difference once the G's start stumbling about. I'm thinking load up the bike with camping gear, bleach, what food I can carry, the air gun and go hide ou in the hills and learn to eat squirrels. Actually, both co-exist, although in small numbers. The zombies have all gone to work for government, getting big paycheques and pensions, so they leave the remaining humans pretty much alone. They still moan a lot, but mostly about how tough they have it with their benefits packages not including "braaiiinnns", and not enough time off from shambling aimlessly - oh, wait, shambling is part of their job. The surviving pockets of humans can avoid them by missing the 4:30 "rush minute" when the government offices close.
See, THAT'S government done right! Got zombies? Don't waste the resource, give 'em jobs! What, the requirements are a mindless adherence to manuals and zero creativity? Perfect!
I wonder why all the native American ("indian") reservation territories are marked as dangerous? Were they just lazy when importing the maps from another source (eg google maps)?
The FAQ says it's a Google maps mashup- my guess is it does something with population density. Maybe it looks at lot size to establish density, so poorer areas (which statistically include reservations) would rank higher. If you look at Pala, CA, it's definitely not a hot zone. Although with the new casino there, maybe it ought to be...
Perhaps we should start our own listing of Zombie Hotspots. I could name a shop or two where the service guys seemed to be zombies...slow, inattentive, easily distracted, poor coordination. Fumbling and shambling go together.
