My 2005 High Mileage R1200GS (No Dissapointments!)

I purchased my bike used in May 0f 2012 with double what many buyers consider high mileage it already had 67,316 on the clock; I did a fly-n-ride and now ride the bike pretty much everywhere, including a 100 mile daily commute across a great deal of Los Angeles; oh, and in my spare time I also ride for fun!

I decided to document this because I hear so many buyers concerned or complaining about their bikes, and I realized that much like a Yelp review, those that complain get a greater share of attention and their experiences are often thought to be widespread, either across the brand or across the model.

Im here to tell you that Im happy with my purchase, have no regrets and luckily, for all of us, both the original owner and myself keep pretty good records.

While I wont bore you documenting every oil change, valve adjustment or tire change (many), I will hi-light the major repair items:

24,392 = rear shock
24,392 = potentiometer
56,991 = slave cylinder
58.958 = rear main seal
63,850 = gear indicator switch

Note 1: At the moment the clutch is getting thin; Im assuming a new clutch within the next 10k miles, possibly less. This is mostly my fault as I slip the clutch too much in the sand.
Note 2: The rear disk carrier/flange is cracked, it was noticed almost immediately upon purchase, though I have decided against repair and over the last 30K miles it has not gotten any worse.
Note 3: I have not done the gas crack recall due to a GSA tank sitting in the garage.

There's a history of illiteracy among some of the mods. They move without reading I am definitely interested in your thread. I myself have a 115,000 miles 1150GSA and agree that those bikes can keep on running as long as they are given some TLC from times to times. I expect the 1200 engine to last as long as the 1150GS. The rest, I dunno ;-)

An encouraging post!

I did a fly-n-ride for my '05 GS in February 2011. It had 41,xxx miles and now has 65,xxx miles. I'm the third owner and the POs did any major recalls/repairs.

I intend to ride my bike into the ground and it's heartening to now that won't be for a long while.

Oh, and check your front headlight.

I rolled 89k miles on my 05 yesterday after spooning on a new rear tourance. (no cracks on the flange)I bought it new and have put all but just a few miles.

I've had to buy 2 stick coils, 2 headlight bulbs and a ZFE for this bike. Everything else is original except for normal wear items.
