Ye men and women of 1 cylinder:

You either have too few cylinders or too many posts, because 1 million posts is too many for one forum...

I know... The regulars hate splits like this because they have become used to the way it is and the ones who got frustrated because they can't find what they're looking for in giant threads aren't here to weigh in. But it's still time, I'm afraid to say.

The only question is what names deserve their own subforums. BMW, KTM, Husky, Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, and Yamaha?

Rather than splits by brand, how about:

Split into Asian Thumpers / Euro Thumpers?

Maybe split by displacement? Above/below 500cc?

Just tossing thoughts out there. Of course, I'm half-drunk, so I'll probably look at this tomorrow and call myself a dumbass...

The Combat Wombat deserves its own forum, indeed.

Sounds like there is enough interest for one for each major manufacturer!

I think Oriental and Round eye split is the only way I could think of.

A cc limit would split bikes that share the same parts and many other things (the EXC range for example), and I don't think just one manufacturer is that massively popular that they could warrant there own forum.

And a split between enduro and trail would be to hard to define for some, and then you would have the single cylinder adventurers on WR's EXC's CRF's etc being as confused as hell where to go.:lol3

How about create a Single Cylinder sub-forums under the BMW and KTM sections and move those bikes there. All others stay in the old Thumpers.

Example, under the BMW section you'd have the Boxers, Parallel Twins and Singles. Under KTM you'd have the LC8 Orange Crush and Singles.

Pretty often already now newbies accidentally post say BMW 650 single questions in BMW area as opposed to in the Thumpers.

I'd say moving out all KTM and BMW singles out of the Thumpers would create lot of room.

Edit. I just did a quick count. On page 1 of Thumpers right now there are 8 BMW threads, 8 KTM threads and 24 other thumper threads.
Based on this very limited sampling, moving BMW and KTM under their respective brand sections, that do excist already, would clear about 1/3 of the traffic out of Thumpers.

Lets put the XR650r's in one forum, and throw the rest of the junk into their own section =)

    :norton

Really though the whole Euro / Asian thing could work well.

Lots of good suggestions. It looks like the BMW forum is pushing 1M on its own but the KTM forum could take the overflow. I kinda like the idea of individual forums for makes, it would make things simpler to find things in the long run. Some think it gets confusing here, I figured it out and am sure no matter the decision I will figure that out too...

How about archiving the "old" threads and let folks start new ones as wanted?

If you do create sub forums, I hope you keep a "general" thumper forum as well. That way people that are cross shopping can get opinions from owners of all brands. Also, if people have more general thumper related questions (suspension, comparing displacement options, etc), they have a place to go.
