I remember reading about NAPA having an oil PSI switch that was a match for the R90/6 but I can not find the napa part number. Does anyone have that handy? Thanks Tom
It's actually more expensive than the factory BMW one. Are you near a BMW dealer or have access to one? Don't believe the rumors that "it's the same as any aircooled VW" that's not true except for the 70-73 /5 bikes. Sorry don't recall the part number from NAPA but I believe it was from an 80s model BMW car.
Also I think I remember that the VW sensors have a somewhat higher switching pressure so they'd give a bit more advanced warning of oil pressure loss rather than indicating that you're already f*&%ed and have been for a while.
What's the switching pressure? The NAPA switches with the higher pressure can flicker at idle and freak people out. FYI.
If a stock BMW oil pressure switch functioning correctly is flickering at idle then you have problems. Either your oil pump, mains, or big ends (or all three) are hosed or will be shortly. The switching pressure on the stock switches is only about 3 psi, so if you have less than that, your engine is devouring itself. You sure you aren't looking at the charge light?

No kidding! Just ask me how I figured that one out! And if the light is OK at start-up but flickering under decileration, you REALLY need to look things over!
