Motorcycle rifle scabbards?

Googled around and found lots of places that make rifle slings/scabbards for horses. Yet to find anything specific for a bike.

Anybody have any ideas/sites?

years ago I had a hard plastic(?) case like the high tek guitar cases. It was made by Koplin, and was called the "Koplin Gun Boot" ,,pretty cool, hauled my Husqvarna .270 Winchester with it. Sadly, it was not theft-proof.

I've never found anything that is specific for motorcycles, but some of the horse rifle scabbards, and other rifle/shotgun cases can be modified. Years ago, I made up something using some PVC pipe, felt, and carpet to carry my shotgun to the sporting clays club on my cruiser.

Hey Velo...

The Kolpin Gun Boots work well if you're looking to carry a scoped bolt gun, and they make a selection of mounting brackets too... all for ATV though.
Montana Jack's seems to have the best prices.
I'd have some issues with a soft case on a motorcycle, unlike horses, motorcycles fall over all too frequently. :D

What rifle, what bike? To know might give me a better idea of what you're trying to accomplish.

Scabbard for motorcycle

What Creeper said.

Depends if you are using a Lever gun, bolt ( Most scabbards are sold
for rife action/barrel length) and scoped/non-scoped.

If it is strictly off-road, you could adapt a leather case or a molded case.

I'd check Cabellas Catalog...

The Hunter brand "Ruffstuff" scabbards are a heavy duty semi-soft case that come with a bunch of straps for lashing it down to this, that and the other thing.
The Weaver brand harness leather scabbards are pretty heavy duty as well.

I'm not going to offer a link, because sizes, vendors and pricing is all over the map.

Gunsmith friend of mine said once that ATVs were the best thing that ever happened to his business.:D

I used a leather saddle boot (scabbard) with top and bottom attachments on my old XL-250...but that's been 30+ years ago.

I want to try to mount a hard case to my front fork on my KLR, ala the WWII harleys Ive seen.

Do you have a particular rifle in mind?

I have one of the Kolpin gun boots, and while it provides protection an unscoped gun will rattle around a bit in there. However, a scoped bolt action is a pretty tight fit.

What gun? What bike?

What use? Is this for driving down the road, do you have a CC permit? Is this only for carrying it down the trail? The public road issue might mean it has to lock, and you need to have a separate locked hardcase somewhere else for the ammo.

Kolping gun boot mounts work very well on KLR's--you have to drill a couple holes in the plastic luggage deck and they mount right on. They will also mount easily to any tube-style luggage or pannier rack. My favorite spot is the off muffler side with the muzzle end of the boot braced to the pass footpeg mount and angled back to best fit the bike.

You also can use the fin-grip style holders--either on the handlebars or mounted on the rear deck (from the turn signal holes on a KLR). That makes for a WIDE load unless it is a short gun--works great for a mini14 w/ folding stock.

I bounced a similar question on F650.com and got some replies you might find worth reading.

Great googlie mooglie!! A lot of activity for my simple little question. Cool!

Let's see if I can add some details. However, might all be moot as the snazzy scabbard on logg rider's DRZ looks like it'll work just fine for me.

Basically, instead of packing one of my handguns I wanted to see if I could drag my .22 plinker with me every now and then. I can't count the number of places I've ridden to / through that would be great areas for shooting. However, the areas are not citified SUV accessible. Luckily out here in the wide open desert, you can legally shoot just about anywhere once you're out of the city.

Was just curious. Now I have plenty of ideas & leads to go on.

Thanks for all the great replies. Will have to see if I can rig something up.
