Eagle Screen

After being driven to distraction by buffeting, I made up my own 'Tobinator" out of a sheet of aluminium with holes and slots. This reduced the buffeting by around 50% or so.

I ended up spending $270 AUD on an Eagle Screens touring screen (tall).
This is a narrow tall screen that is quite convex (from the rider's position).

Eagle screens design and make their own screens in Perth Western AUstralia and the service is good.

The result? Near dead quiet for me (6'2'') so that I no longer have to wear earplugs. JUst a bit disconcerting when looking down, as the view is slightly distorted due to the convex bending. I am a happy chappy now.

Well I was going to have a look and see if anyone has tried the new AF330 from Givi yet, but in true ADV style there is over 100 responses to the affirmative!

The only thing remains for a guy who is not even close to his bike at all right now, is "What does this screen look like with ADV winglets?" could someone pls. post a couple? I was going to order the unadjustable Givi but then I saw this one.

Cheer :freaky

I'm cooking

I have the GSAdventure with the stock windscreen.

The buffeting was lousy so I added a wonderluck spoiler on top and the buffeting was greatly reduced and all was well. I rode a fewDL rides adn did well in a 36 hour rally. Life was good - until it got hot.

Now I'm sitting behind the big screen with the higher spoiler and the winglets getting almost no air moving through my vents. On my hour long commute I'm dying.

I'm doing a BBG across teh plains in August then riding around the west for a week adn i cannot see making it more than a few hours.

I pulled off the einglets and the spoiler, now I have the buffeting adn some air - but I'm thinking I might try a shortie of some kind?

Anyone have a suggestion as to what will fit on a 1200 Adventure and give me clean air? Will the Givi AF330 go short enough?

I'm 6'0" 33" inseam - lots of leg and arm.

I am running a GS. Because of my Rox Riser position I have to have the screen in the full up position. I have a GSA screen that I am use for winter riding and I am going to cut down my GS screen to a shorty. I just don't know how low to go. Yet.

Cutting a GS screen

How does one cut a GS screen down? Hacksaw? Score it with a knife and break. Truely don't know where to start. If this is 205, would a kind sole point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Fitted Givi and winglets today, ride report when I can get out.
[EDIT] I got the fixed Givi, not the AF330. The AF is still on it's way to OZ, and I've read too much good things about the fixed one too.

I just put a Cee Bailey's summer screen (the domed cut) on my GS and really like it. Your head is in clean air and it blocks enough wind to take the blast off my chest and tank bag. The build quality is first rate - just what you'd expect from CB.

If you don"t mind me asking, what is your height and inseam?

Well I have gone for a little test ride, and I am a believer.

The bike: R1200GS, Givi DT330 screen, ADV winglets, ADV beak extension (OEM). No tank bars or spotlights (yet). Seat in the lowest setting, no bar risers, OEM handguards.

Me: I am 179cm tall (5' 11"), inseam 81cm (32"), Shoei Multitec helmet, Teknic jacket without 'big' collar fitted. Earmold earplugs fitted as always. No, no pictures :puke1

Test: cool (15c), speed 110km/h (65mph) constant, some sweepers.

I found in the past that Givi screens work the best in the lowest settings. This was no different, starting from the lowest setting the wind was much more controlled, and the helmet slap was gone. Wind noise was reduced (as I am going deaf this is a big issue for me) but the noise is more due to the wind over the helmet than generated by the screen, which is also a nice change.

One up from the bottom setting and the screen really started working for me. Wind flow was just over the helmet to the point where I ould compare the wind noise increase by opening and closing the top vent on the helmet. no buffeting, nothing.

Two up from the bottom and the wind pressure was further reduced. What was starting was a bit of wind roar, and a bit of a helmet wiggle as well.

I can only say that as you took the screen higher you would increase the noise and buffetting, for no real gain. It works and for normal duty I will be sticking with the position one up from the bottom.

No buffeting, markedly reduced wind noise, a lot less wind pressure but still some airflow. Good stuff :clap

I may make some 'tobinator' style of screen lifter to try out, maybe not.

Has anyone ever taken the mirrors off to see what effect they have on the buffeting ?, when I put my hand up there is a lot of air coming off the mirror toward my helmet.Secondly those who use 800 gs mirrors or other types as well is there any improvement?

Killa Meter 07-29-2010 01:07 PM

Anyone??? Don't make me go and take my own mirrors off and try it, you know I'll do it!

It is not the mirrors. I have aftermaket ones on that I can lay down while driving. No difference, nada. It is the big piece of plastic right in front of you.

I have turned them down while riding (heading onto the dirt) or forgot to bring them up (coming off the dirt). No change in buffeting.

My 2c

Thanks For that Lonestar ,I could of guessed it wouldn't be that easy.

WANNABEEmer 08-02-2010 02:04 AM

Just put on the (way too expensive) Flowjet of Wundermilch. Have to say that I am truly happy with it as long as stay under 140 km/h (87 m/h) it is really good. Still have the winglets attached don't know if they are of any help.

But in the winter it would be cold and very wet when raining so don't know yet if I keep it like this or put the original back on.
