We (as in GB and I) are going to unsticky this thread.

I suggest that those who NEED to access it regularly bookmark it.

We want to use stickies more for their intended use, that being to draw attention to the larger issues this forum deals with.

A link will also be included in the FAQ (which will stay stickied).

Wunderlich Vario Question

Wunderlich Vario Question: Just installed on a new R1200GS, works pretty well in the current cold weather with the big screen all the way up. Should be great in the summer with the small screen or no screen above the base. The brace is a nice touch - more robust than the smaller vario screen on the F650GS twin.
Two questions:
1. The plastic bits around the big bolts that let you adjust the screen rake are opposite of the stock with the key on top, which limits how vertical the screen can be set. The stock part seems attached pretty well to the stock screen, so not sure that swapping out is an option.
2. The big hand tighted bolt at this spot is too short - Just barely long enough to allow the whole system to be snugged up with a wrench on the 10mm locknut, which doesn't leave enough slack between the locknut and the rest to allow quick roadside hand adjustments of screen rake.
Any suggestions appreciated.

I use a Nolan N-Com in the winter (as it is very warm) and have no issues with it either. My XD2 is for off-road riding only now. Its just not built for wind.

I am 6'5" and found a helmet change was the way to go. I run my screen in the modified full up right position in the winter and low in the summer to get as much air flow over the helmet as possible. This seems to work well for me.

I love the helmet, I have ridden the GS with a GSA screen and not had the buffet issue. The same for the XR. All of these are at speed, legal + a bit.

I find that my mirrors are being affected by the buffeting also. Since it is never that cold for that long here I am going back to the GS and will look for a shorty screen for my summer rides.

Windshield - ZTechnik VStream Extra Tall Z2418

For me, 6'6" this works great, much better than GSA-Screen + Touratech Screen Extender. Much reduced noise around 70-100Km/h, before I could hardly hear the engine. I can look above the screen edge without any problem. I can recommend this one for riders =>195cm.
Having said this, the Aeroflow screen must still be the best.

In most upright screen position no collison with the GSA Winglets, good:

Extremely clear material

Of course this one is important...

Big screen but compared to Areoflow I like the optics:

Cut down Puig Screen

More "sporty" shorter screen for hot days.
Bike feels much different (lighter), since I'm 6'6" tall my helmet is in clean air, I rode much faster than I otherwise would with my larger screen,
it much more feels like a fun-bike.
No turbulence (helmet doesn't bounce around at all) up to tested 120km/h speed but lot's of wind pressure.
I'm going too fast with this...I like this but still I'll mount the larger ZTechnik screen again, if I were 20 years younger...

BMW 2005 R1200GS and Calsci

Can someone with a Calsci Large and Extra-large windscreen measure the height of the screens for me?
I would like to know the height from some point like from the top of the big headlight, or from some point on the bottom of the screen. I have asked Mark at Calsci several times in email and I keep getting told to buy the large. I want to measure compared to what I have now.

This is on a BMW 2005 R1200GS

Thanks,
Danny

I think the best place to measure screen height is from a point between the two lower pivot screws in the front bottom center of the screen. All of the screens will have this point in common..

x_hog_ridr 07-26-2011 07:49 AM

That is a great point.
Now if I can get someone to measure the Large Calsci screen for a BMW GS 2005, that would be great.
Thanks,
Danny

super8mm 02-26-2012 11:11 AM

well after reading a lot of this threads I have a couple of questions, First I am going to sell my GT and Dakar and get a 1200 low frame due to 28" inseam and a knee that is only about 1/2 there :evil

when folks talke about AreoFlow are they talking Givi Areoflow or Aeroflows Areoflow?

Does the AreoFlow Sport 1/2 fairing come with the little winglets? some pictures on their site say (Shown with optional BMW Adventure Wings) and other dont but they look to be the same winglets??

The Aeroflow Sport half fairing does not come with winglets. I am something over 6' 3" and the Aeroflow Sport half fairing gave me a lot of buffeting on my helmet top regardless of how I adjusted it, so I had to return mine. For some people, it works beautifully, though. If you are shorter than I, it might work for you.

You can also see my post here about AF330 and GSA Winglets installation.

We have holes on both side, to be honest I don't have extra power socket installed, but there is enough place to do so.
