Big Bear Bash - Part 2, The Plan of Attack

For anyone that wants to ride up to Big Bear by dirt on Friday the 16th we'll be meeting 434 I Street in San Bernardino http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...=16&iwloc=addr at or after 8am.

This is a friend's shop "Tim Robel Concepts" and is located at the exit ramp for Mill St on the 215 South about a block away from Chaparral.

We'll have a truck available to put some gear in and expect to roll out no later than 9am (earlier if everyone is ready)

I've made the reservations and for anyone interested now is the time to make your plans to attend.
The dates are 16-18 May 2008 the rangers told me that would be the best time before the summer when it's crowded and before fire season starts. We'll be staying at the Lake Loop at Serrano Campground near Fawnskin at Big Bear Lake. I'll be going a day early, on Thursday, to get things set and to contact the rangers for the latest reports on trail closures.
I'm keeping it basic here, you can find all of the details about the event on my homepage I'll be making changes as the trip develops so check in on it every once in awhile.
As of today from Stromtrooper.com, Advrider.com, and my2wheels.com there's about 30 people interested so this should be fun.
There was snow and ice in spots today, when the weather gets nicer I'll be looking for volunteers to scout out a few trails with me. I'll keep everyone posted on that too.

Here's the current roster of confirmed and unconfirmed riders I'll update this as the trip develops.

Count me in...... I'll help out scouting a few trails when it warms up. I booked site 120

focallength 12-31-2007 04:40 PM

I should be able to go, although its still to far off to tell. If anyone books a camp site and has an extra spot let me know.

Sounds like another good time to ride and meet more FFs. I'll put this down on my calendar.

Thanks K60ST for taking the lead.

I will reserve Sunday and forward my spot and info to you. I want an RV spot so I can take the family.

luv2race 01-03-2008 04:26 PM

OK, I'm in, spot 124. No need for the RV loop. I'll be there Friday morning. I have stayed in spots 114, 117, 130, 131, and in the RV loop too. The loop you picked has the best Lake view IMO. Pot Luck sounds great. The closer we get to May, we'll figure out who is bringing what.

Count me in for a scout trip.

John

I saw your map, it looks like its all street routes. If you need any help with OHV trails let me know Id be happy to put some routes together.

here are some links to the OHV trails in the area

Ugh!!!

DAMN!!!! My wife is due May 23rd, so I won't be able to make it. She'd never forgive me if I was away offroading and camping while our second young'n was born.

Maybe next time....... :cry

Regards,

John

Thanks, I need to take that map off of there. It was supposed to show the trails going up to Big Bear from Apple Valley, then Clarks grade coming down. And that was in the preplanning stages when it we were talking about a one day half on half off road trip.

I have web and hard copies of the OHV trails and for the most part any plans will depend pretty much on what's open or closed at the time.

We'll be neighbors. Site #121 is mine!

luv2race 01-04-2008 10:20 PM

Cool, the list is building. There are so many trails back there, we won't have any problems putting on dirt miles!

K6OST 01-05-2008 10:00 AM

yes, we've got 11 so far as of this morning.

What would be cool is everyone toss in a ten spot, then order up a BBQ, & Booze delivered to the camp site from a Fawnskin dinning facility or some other BBQ place in Big bear.......Thoughts?

K6OST 01-05-2008 12:50 PM

That's a great idea!! Anyone familiar with a place up there that could do that for us?

There's a couple places on this list that look like they may do it.

Upon review of the list, this is the place:

Come to think of it, a BBQ'er at the camp site may not be allowed for fire reasons. Heck, we'll just have em cook up 50lbs of ribs and all the sides and bring it to us.
