Day 1.............
Day 1... Our first day!

Hi All,
Our adventure got underway today... turned out to be a beautiful day... especially after all the recent rain!
Packed my bike upand headed into work for a 1/2 day.... THe Grasshopper is full

Yigal met me about noon, and we were able to get on the road about 12:15..

We covered a little over 300 miles today, arriving in Trois Riviere Quebec about 6:30 pm...
Stopped at Franconia Notch in NH's White Mountains for a short break.

Yigal took the opportunity to check in..

We continued up past St Johnsbury, VT and my gas light came out, about 25 miles too soon!. This would happen later too. I suspect it was tthe highway speed, heavy load and wind. We stopped for gas and grabbed a snack.

We got back on the highway and continued on up to the border. There was no line. one car ahead of us. It was smooth passage through the border. The fellow we had was very civil.

After crossing, it was about 4pm, we continued on to our destination.... we made one more quick rest stop about 30 miles out.

The last 30 miles was peaceful & uneventful.. as was the rest of the day.

Approx 6:40 we arrived at our destination!

After checking in, we met Lutz, from Germany, riding an 1150 GS and headed for South America. We spent as bit talking and then the 3 of us ended up going out to dinner together. It made a very nice evening.

To wrap up day one notes.....

The weather was great all day... we traveled a total of 310 miles on Day one, from Merrimack NH to Trois Riviere Quebec...
Total Time: 6 hours 30 minutes
Riding Time 4 Hours 58 Minutes
Moving Average: 62.2 MPH
(Overall with all stops) 47.4 MPH
We had some photo stops, gas etc...

Had a nice dinner with Lutz from Germany who was traveling to South America and staying where we were.

Next..... will be Day 2....

Day 2....
Day 2....
We awoke reasonably rested. It had rained very heavy overnight (thunderstorms) but it was dry now. Got our gear packed up and we were ready to get underway at about 7:20 am. Our plan was to get a bit down the road and then stop for breakfast. We were all fueled up from the night before. We would travel 138 out through Quebec City, to the ferry at Tadoussac, Quebec then on to Baie Comeau. 138 is quite scenic and winding, especially East of Quebec City.

Yigal ready to depart

Our breakfast stop...

Yours truly....

Views along the St Lawrence on 138

the Grasshopper resting....

The St Lawrence was very pretty... somewhat overcast & foggy day..

more St Lawrence...

Roadside scenery....

Here is our gas stop.. the Grasshopper gets fueled.

Fog really settling in here at the gas stop...

It was at this stop that we decided to check the siphon as to it's ability to get fuel from Yigal's GSA Tank.
Too my surprise, it did not work, almost as if we could not snake the hose into the compartment correctly.
As I was using fuel at a higher rate, we were gonna look for a couple off fuel bottles for later to carry.. More on that later..

Day 2 will be continued in the next post...

Day 2 Continued...
Continuing with day 2...

some more scenery along highway 138..

a rest stop along a lake, grabbed a snack and fluids..

overlooking the ferry (in the fog!)

Oh, There She Is!!!

here we are, loaded on the boat..

Yours Truly, waiting to get underway...

boat is underway....

Pretty foggy.. is he using a Garmin???

arriving at the other dock....

the Grasshopper watching the ship dock..

back on the road again....

running the 389 North out of Baie Comeau

the Manic 2 Dam

Manic 5, goal for tomorrow.. 195 k away..

Our stop for the night, Manic 2 Campgrounds.
This completes Day 2... 138 was a very scenic route out of Quebec, and the 389 out of Baie Comeau was a nice twisty route.

We fueled up in Baie Comeau and grabbed some supplies. This included a couple extra plastic bottles for a possible fuel need.

It was a great day of riding... Stats were

Total miles today 353 (Overall is 663)
Total Time: 12 hours 14 minutes
Riding Time 7 Hours 22 Minutes
Moving Average: 47.9 MPH
(Overall with all stops) 28.9 MPH

Next up will be Day 3... we will travel up to Manic 5, then continue on up to Gagnon and points North..

I am "guessing" that the connection will not be completed at least until the end of next year.. they said 2009 but from what I and a friend saw a few weeks before me, they are a long ways away from finishing...
