thank you Garmin

My #2 478 suffered a failure in the usb port which precluded uploading to the unit. called garmin, got a return number and sent it back. Yesterday to my surprise got what looks like a brand new 478 but tagged refurbished and it was loaded with the 2010 map. quite a surprise. first return of my many garmin units.

Was this a warranty case or did you pay the flat rate for repair?

Same Issue

They replaced mine for free as well. Good guys to work with. Joe

Garmin did a warranty replacement on a unit that sustained a bit of damage (scratched screen) that they would have been perfectly within their rights to refuse warranty on - for that matter, I fully expected to pay a service charge.

This is one of the main reasons that I have been and will continue to be a Garmin customer, and highly recommend them to anyone who asks. Most other companies sort of forget who you are just as soon as they've cashed your check.

FWIW, if you're ever at a rally (Iron Butt type, NOT Daytona type), look at the bikes and count the non-Garmin GPSs.

Good Company

I purchased a Garmin 450 from Sams Club a couple years ago. It was a return, which ment I couldn't bring it back for a refund. It worked perfect until I screwed it up trying to put music on it. Called Garmin, customer service. They talked me through the process of wipping it out and reloading the updated maps. They were very patient and easy to understand while talking me through the process. Good Company! They have my business.
