Powerlet on an Airhead?
L.A. Woman's R80/7 may need a few accessories...:evil...can the bike support one?
|
Depends on what it is, and most likely you'll need a new alternator setup to power anything medium-to-large-ish.
|
If your charging system is well maintained and up to snuff it will support a heated vest or a aux. light etc. If you want to run a couple of lights and a vest etc. all at the same time you would need a system upgrade. On my stock system I run a vest and a PIaa 35 watt light at the same time without issues. Though I am in the habit of shutting something off if I go through town and the revs aren't being kept up.

Do you guys connect directly to the battery, or into a switched circuit?
|
Normally to a fused (but not switched) circuit. But direct connection is possible but I would ensure the + wire is fused.

Get Motorrad Elektrik's new Omega 450 system.
www.motoelekt.com You can run a big headlight, heated grips and clothing, and still have ample power to run anything else. It has saved my tail riding year round. Sure, there are others out there, but this one is da' bomb. |

my G/S had a 20a rotor(280w), not a 17 like the /7s and it still wouldn't charge the battery at idle. Find the draw for the accessories you want and see if you can squeeze them in. Like JT said, if you don't turn them on until over 3500rpms you'll probably be okay if they don't draw more than 3 or 4 amps. It would make having a good battery that much more important. |
Y'all know I gladly pimp out the Omega charging system. nothing like being able to run errands now with charging impunity.
