First Day of Spring Ride

Turns out to be a great start to Spring.
Squal showed up for a cruise

http://adventuresidecar.smugmug.com/...25_WzuPP-L.jpg

We headed up to Snakehead Ridge via a rambling route, south up Neal Creek Canyon. Squal is a nice impressionable lad, easily convinced to leave his perfectly good bike and hop aboard my KLR sidecar, which I had yet to get around to servicing

We found a little snow up on top, but for the most part the roads were clear

Exhibiting hubris unwarranted, I left my tools and survival kit on the other bike(calm down Andy. I did have my shovel and saw, compass, maps, matches and toilet paper. I was arrogant not ignorant)

Unfortunately, what I needed was tire spoons and a patch kit. In the dry bag. On the other bike. At home.

We managed to ride several miles out of the hills on a completely flat tire. No damage, no walking, no foul! I love Kenda K270 tires! Cheap, reasonable traction on a variety of surfaces and TOUGH!

Fortunately, I've never had to change a tire in a motorbike before. Stupid pedal Roadbike seems to require it everytime I ride, which is not very often now that I have a fun motorbike. Oh....... and now that I'm old and lazy.

Should I pack soap in my case to help seal the bead? Thanks for the pics. I like the "Kong" next to the tire in the last pic. Was your buddy bored with that procedure and trying to tell you it's time for a ride in that sidecar?

Looking again at the pics, I noticed the studs on the (back?) tire. So that's how you can commute on those bikes of yours all winter. I drive past Durkan's Office most everyday and have to feel guilty for being in my cage. I'll do the below freezing thing from Parkdale, but it's gotta have been dry for a couple of days first. (I'm a total puss in the rain)

This last week has been awesome, though. But, yeah, without fresh snow in the hills, it'll be a dusty tinderbox way too soon. I better start packing a shovel in my case with that soap.

soap or wd40 or even motor oil- but you gots to lube the bead! I hate changing tires and I am not very good at it. Steve at All Season Sports on 12th street is good, inexpensive and can balance it or rebuild a wheel if need be. I usually have him deal with my wheel and tire issues. I did this one as penance for venturing out without my kit!
