Myself (Ipponduro) riding the 950 adventure

Jeff (Iskitoo) riding the 07 R1200GS

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0692.jpg

and Fred (almostfred) pushing the 07 DL1000

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0700.jpg

Day 1 started out with much anticipation. I don't think any of us got much sleep the night before. After months of waiting I made Fred and Jeff wait until noon on Friday when I got off work before we could leave.

I show up at Jeff's house to find the other 2 geared up and ready to go.

The 3 of us with our clean shiney bikes right before we threw the helmets on and we were off

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0035.jpg

I didn't taken any picture until we were in Canada and were forced to stop

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0647.jpg

right next to Elvis Rocks

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0040.jpg

After our first (of many) construction delay we we back on the road

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0645.jpg

with beautifull weather to boot

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0652.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0666.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0671.jpg

we stopped in Cache Creek at Hungry Herbie's Drive In for an early dinner

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/000_0012.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0044.jpg

Herbie Burger

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0046.jpg

From Herbie's we hit the road, hwy 97 north to Lac La Hache Provencial park.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_1709.jpg

I think it was 16 bucks for the campsite.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0694.jpg

Day 2 started out well, a little chilly, but clear and dry

I took a picture just as we were coming into Williams Lake.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0696.jpg

Hwy 97 makes a right turn in Williams Lake Just a mile or so after I took that picture. Jeff Made the turn, I looked at fred in my mirror and made the turn, then about a half mile up the road I looked in my mirror again and no Fred WTF? so we turned around and found Fred parked just after the corner.

Flat Tire!
http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0697.jpg

So Fred Limped the bike down to the Chevron

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0701.jpg

Where I found out why they brought me along. :lol3

The Tire was junk due to the size of the hole and wear on the inner liner from going flat at 60 miles an hour there was no way it was going to make it the next 5500 miles.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0702.jpg

This happened at about 7:00 A.M. and none of the local bike shops opened till 9:00 Fred took off on foot and showed up at about 9:15 in the passenger seat of a pickup with a new tire.

we found some Chervron bead lubricant and mounted it up.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0704.jpg

Being a professional tire monkey has it's advantages......... or disadvantages. :dunno

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0051.jpg

Fred Reinstalls and were ready to roll

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0050.jpg

A little way down the road we saw where someone in a cage had had a much worse morning.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0712.jpg

and we had great weather again.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0714.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0718.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/100_1385.jpg

We stop for gas and the Girls flock to check out the big KTM.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0725.jpg

Later on we ride our first gravel of the trip

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0742.jpg

We roll into Dawson Creek early enough to make about a 15 mile side trip for a poster shot.

Night 2 we find ourselves at the Beginning of the Alaskan Highway, Mile 0

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/100_1397.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0067.jpg
The Harley is owned by a guy named Chuck, a farm boy from the Mid-West (Iowa or Ohio can't remember) riding solo to Fairbanks. We played leap frog with him on the Alcan for the next few, days pretty cool dude

I slept pretty good that night, I had no idea that the next day was going to be packed with surprises.

:clap

IpponDuro 07-15-2010 12:33 AM

We started the morning of day three with a few more poster shots before we hit the road.

Before 6 A.M. is too early for the Salute :deal
http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0075.jpg

Guess not

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0071.jpg

We got some R.V.ers doing the same thing to take our picture.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0767.jpg

We got on the highway headed north and right away I was suprised to see our first moose. She was on the run so it was a pretty crappy picture but I had proof I saw a moose.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0768.jpg

we stopped for fuel and met a guy on a Burgman riding from Georgia to Homer Alaska. And people tell me I'm crazy?

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0780.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0782.jpg

And once again the weather does'nt suck..

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0786.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0799.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0797.jpg

sometimes there was traffic

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0807.jpg

But what can you do about traffic?

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0811.jpg

stop and wait out the rush hour

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0818.jpg

Glad that's over

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0823.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0826.jpg

It started to look like the good weather was over to. We stopped in the sunshine to put our raingear on before we got under the dark clouds.

I'm really glad I bought a new rainsuit for this trip, my textile suit is waterproof but only for so long. I also used that rainsuit over my textiles when the temperatures got down in the 30's and 40's the suit does a great job in blocking the wind from pulling heat away from your body I don't think I'll do another long trip with out it. and like Jeff said. "This isn't a Fashion Show."

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0830.jpg

good thing we suited up.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0832.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0833.jpg

But after only 20 or 30 minutes it cleared back up.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0840.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0846.jpg

a quick stop for fuel at the Toad River Lodge

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/100_1413.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0848.jpg

Just a side note, when you come over a hill to see this sign from the back side where it's painted black it may cause members of your group to apply their brakes suddenly. :eek1

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0854.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0852.jpg

this sign might cause sudden braking as well.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0855.jpg

or this one

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0857.jpg

some really neat landscape here

and more Moose

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0860.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0861.jpg

Chuck passed us while we were taking pictures of the Moose

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0865.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/100_1433.jpg

A few miles after the Grazing Roadblock we were at our campsite. Liard Hot Springs.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0913.jpg

our neighbor on the GSA was from New Mexico and just out on a cruise.

our other noisy neighbor a white owl

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0901.jpg

of course we had to check out the hot springs, Once we got by this vicious beast

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0906.jpg

The Big Deep moderate temperature pool. 9 feet deep and I'd guess 90 degrees.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0907.jpg

The Way Way too Damn Hot! pool

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0910.jpg

If you can make it to this end of the pool your supposed to stack a rock on the pile. (there isn't very many rocks over there) I could'nt make it within 50 feet.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/100_1437.jpg

Hot Spring sure feel Great after a long day in the saddle you come out refreshed and ready to do it again the next day. :freaky

Day 4
Monday June 28th

with an early start we were headed to the Yukon Territory.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0916.jpg

The First time the Alcan Crosses into the Yukon there is a little somewhat run-down sign. This was the first time any of us had been there so we stopped to record our acheivment.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0924.jpg

There is a little hill about 100 yards behind us in these pictures. it's hard to see. but its there

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/100_1443.jpg

I don't think we would have spent so much time taking pictures and :topes ing... if we had known what was just on the other side of that little hill....

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0935.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0934.jpg

A few miles up the road we came across this Monster

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0940.jpg

this guy was huge, he had to be a 500 pounder.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0939.jpg

A few more miles we ran into a smaller but still pretty big bear

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0943.jpg

and these are only the ones that stuck around long enough for us to take pictures. :D

Yukon sign # 2

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/100_1455.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0127.jpg

That last sign was in Watson Lake, Home of the sign forest.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0134.jpg

pretty cool idea.

Marblemount :huh

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0957.jpg

I found a Burlington (New Jersey I believe) sign that someone had modified with a Sharpie to represent my home town.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0956.jpg

so I left my mark.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0960.jpg

I'm sure there is a story behind this Mark.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0965.jpg

Outside Watson Lake it was open highway and clear skies.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0967.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0974.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_0976.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_1006.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_1010.jpg

We stopped for fuel in Teslin and Chuck caught up to us again.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0146.jpg

Here he is towering over Fred. :lol3

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0145.jpg

We rolled right through Whitehorse without stopping and on towards Haines Junction.

The only picture I took in Whitehorse

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_1013.jpg

North of Whitehorse the terrain changed considerably, The trees got smaller and the land opened up more. It's pretty awesome country like nothing I had seen before.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_1019.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_1018.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_1026.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_1031.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/100_1472.jpg

In Haines Junction the fist stop was for fuel and I was already starting to like this place.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_1033.jpg

The Kluane RV Kampground was just down the road from the gas station we picked out a site and paid

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_1036.jpg

We started unpacking the bikes and I threw some change and my cell phone on the table.......... Big Mistake. :amazon

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_1035.jpg

Campsite # 2

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_1038.jpg

After we set up camp we rode back into town for a burger and a view.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/100_1475.jpg

Great Milkshakes by the way. :thumb

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0175.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0177.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0176.jpg

I got caught breaking the law of ATGATT. :deal

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0180.jpg

It was about 75 out and riding in a t-shirt felt really good for that 1/2 mile ride.

Guess I don't get to ride the.

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_1039.jpg

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_1040.jpg

We bought some beer carry out from the bar and headed for camp

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_1041.jpg

Yukon Brewing Company...... Beer worth freezing for. :1drink

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/IMG_1042.jpg

It wasn't half bad beer. That won't be the last time we drink it on this trip.

Iskitoo 07-16-2010 05:58 AM

Thanks for getting this started Travis.
I will add my .02 along the way. First I would like to thank Ipponduro and Almostfred for a great ride, I'm still sore from laughing. I thought this was an interesting feature on the Pine River bridge

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0062.jpg
The steel plate cast into the concrete, must be a lot of debris in that river at times.http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/DSCF0076.jpg0Photos/DSCF0073.jpg[/IMG] Ippon at mile 0. While we were visiting with the rver's that took our picture they asked where we were going. "Prudhoe Bay" we said! One of the gents said he had made the trip a few years back. He said "there are two kinds of people that drive the Dalton, truck drivers and damn fools. And I didn't have a CDL." We knew what category we fit in.:1drink

Thoroughly enjoying the trip report. Thanks for sharing! I'm glad you found the Yukon brews... I had many a good night with Yukon Red last summer. Damn fine beer.
