Boldly going nowhere - a mini weebeastie adventure.

boldly going nowhere

Home alone for the evening so I thought I would take the scooter to the coast, nothing like a good honest burn WOT along the pacific coast highway right :D plus it was going to turn 1000 miles since I got it not too long ago, and why waste that clock cycle on a commute!

The beastie of choice this evening.

The mountains look clear, should be nice weather!
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...48_PwD8P-L.jpg

Adding a second story? Folks in woodside, ca have a lot of money!
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...98_ez6NH-L.jpg

OK this is better, tiny bit of local traffic out of the way and I needed my momentum for the hill!
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...96_HJKjk-L.jpg

come on my 125 little CC's
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...32_LqwBH-L.jpg

Darn almost made it all the way to the top, when traffic hit!
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...48_zrsQu-L.jpg

Not a bike in sight at alices today :scratch
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...18_XXC38-L.jpg

I got twists to take care of!
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...68_czxEk-L.jpg

bit of video, left handed so sorry for the shake but twists and one hand riding is an art?
:D

Pulled over for the 1000 shot :clap
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...11_LKFw2-L.jpg

Not a bad place to do it either :ricky
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...52_YXJBu-L.jpg

More traffic! Not bad in the straight aways as they leave me in the dust but annoying in the twists as I could faster :D
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...78_8XYiN-L.jpg

Coast getting nearer! Not quiet the weather I wanted but the cool air felt good. Vents open!
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...32_z4MuV-L.jpg

Small break to grab a drink and a snack at my fav store before reaching the coast
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...37_unZHw-L.jpg

small jam session going on tonight
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...16_kbCN9-L.jpg

Pretty much summed up the trip!
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...55_HGyvQ-L.jpg

some cool local traffic

My secret hide out spot for a great view of the coast when clear and never anyone there

http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...48_ufCcS-L.jpg

long since abandoned road to the coast
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...77_EuRde-L.jpg

snacked up and off again, kinda nice not being able to break the speed limit :poser
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...70_p2BuK-L.jpg

into half moon bay
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...82_KBeie-L.jpg
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...63_nxGgG-L.jpg

This was the part I was concerned about, super fast uphill sweepers and a tiny 125 scooter, luckily not much traffic and they all just woodshed by me.
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...94_Esbgh-L.jpg

at the top!
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...42_nBR2h-L.jpg

doesn't look like a reasonable place to park if you ask me.
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...80_HreHG-L.jpg

The dwarf and the beastie :poser
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...36_Ynsxa-L.jpg

nice view!
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...74_QQhzd-L.jpg

the ride down was excellent, no cars and the lines just seemed to call my name.
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...49_QmcDx-L.jpg

looks like the local drink pond is full for once!
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...04_nyWCp-L.jpg

OK, maybe I can break the speed limit on occasion, wind on my back downhill etc….
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...25_fRHd4-L.jpg

slowly made my way back into town, well almost. Lots of horse folk around these parts.
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...11_pCUTj-L.jpg

Lots of taco trucks near my local parts :lol2
http://smugmug.com/Motorcycles/2010/...40_RLjNV-L.jpg

last stretch home

Most excellent adventure! And the pix were great too. :ricky

My 50cc Zuma only gets out about twice a year. I need to use it more 'cause it is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. I keep forgetting.
Thanks.

Not freeway legal in CA, which is why I got it. Force me onto back roads :D

:nod small displacement motors are a blast. It is a whole new way of thinking of riding. Momentum and carrying speed since you can't just yank the throttle.

Excellent! Enjoyed reading of your little trip.

Oh, and if the weebeastie was concerned about going up that hill, does that make it a timorous weebeastie?

YamaGeek 07-16-2010 12:10 PM

So are you going to Wetfest on the Wee Beast?

I'm looking into a small bike route to Hwy1 from Eureka CA. So far it looks like I might have to ride Hwy 101 part of the way out of Eureka.

you do indeed, I found that for planning I was looking at as a just in case i can make it thing was from caltrans

http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist1/d1transp...bike_route.pdf

When no alternative route is available freeway access is fine for bicycles and presumably smaller cc motor driven scooters etc.

there is a fantastic guide book you can get in hard copy or down load (huge 14mb+)
http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist1/d1transp...guide/full.pdf

I have not looked up the OR/WA stuff yet.

If you're ever near Coos Bay-North Bend we've got a campspot.

I've been checking out Google Maps, which shows a couple of alternative routes parallel to 101. From Fortuna there's Matiola Rd which ends west of Legget and you can pick up, from the park there, I think it's called "Ulsa" road which makes it all of the way to connect with Hwy 1. They're both pretty curvy which makes me think they're also going to be quite hilly.

in west there is a better description somewhere of the state of those roads, one is dirt and if wet is pretty impassable. plus once you get out there gas might be a concern?

You should post up a thread in West, there should be some cool info there for sure.

Enjoyed your report. The small cc bikes can be a kick to ride as long as you're not in a huge hurry. It's amazing how much more you see, it's just a different ride. :ricky
