The CX500 "Sundays 'round the Gorge" files

This weekend I hooked up with inmate Apple Jam, who grew up in The Dalles and we went on a little ride together. (sorry for the late posting A.J., I ran into "technical difficulties" of the sort we talked about) A.J is a wealth of knowledge on the local history, and I learned alot on our trip, he's also a heck of nice guy. Thanks for everything A.J.!:thumb

I have taken the liberty of mapping out the route we took (still within the 50 mile diameter), and since I will probably have more Sunday rides like this, I have not given it a clever name, just a date. May I present:

We met here, and decided a general direction to go.

The question is, WB, : "Can you do for Dufur what Dufur can Do for You?" :lol3

Ladybug0048 09-28-2010 03:07 PM

Did AJ forget to tell you to stop and enjoy the flowers? Where's the flowers guys? :flug OK you found lots of other things to stop and enjoy so I'll forgive you this time. :lol3

This is close, almost flower like.
http://munchie.smugmug.com/Motorcycl...4_vqZbw-XL.jpg

Keep enjoying your 50 mile loops - it's amazing what people can find in their own backyards.

K7MDL 09-28-2010 03:38 PM

Nice to see a CX500 still in service. Looks a lot smaller than I remember it being next to that Katoom.

One ride on a CX500 in 1980 or so converted me to shaft drive for street, no more chain oil up my back (had a CL360 scrambler at the time, motor oil on the chain for lube back then). Bought a used Yamaha 750 Special shortly afterwards, then Yamaha XS1100, Yamaha Venture, and now Royal Star Venture.

Good ride!

el guapo nada 09-28-2010 03:50 PM

Sorry...I'll remember next time

@ Ladybug......no, A.J. did not clue me into any flowers, it was more along the lines of old lumber, rocks, trees and beef. :huh The next ride I am posting in Daytrippin (sometime tonight) has some really cool flower shots though...now that I am aware, I will make sure to include at least 1 flower pic in my RR's, just for you. Thanks Ladybug...you should come join us sometime!:pynd

@ K7MDL....yes, that orange beastie makes my CX look like a CT70! :lol3 and I have to concur on the shaft drive...it is so low maintenance, makes me never want a chain-drive again!

Shoot, LB. Where were my manners? Next time, I promise. The wildflowers are pretty much done, so none stood out, but I'm betting we coulda found SOME......

We did stop a lot, just to enjoy the ride and the scenery, and I know that's the main purpose.
But waterfalls should kinda count, right???? They're awfully pretty at White River Falls SP

Apple Jam 09-29-2010 01:05 PM

I've only got a couple to add. They're crappy cell phone pics, in comparison to el guapo nada's fine art......

Funny how we get similar pics from the perspective that we each like most...

Should I wash it someday?? Naw! She likes it dirty

That Wamic Market road is really pretty short,
but the pictures make it look like it goes on forever

DireWolf......where were you in 1975??
Doing Pocket Knife Grafiiti on Skyline Rd. somewhere maybe??

Gootch 09-29-2010 02:07 PM

Digging the CX-500; it looks to be in very good shape. They are just about unkillable (I had one for 88,000 miles and hardly ever did any maintenance).

Oh yeah, the other things shown in the picture look pretty good too. Nice ride.

JeffinTD 09-29-2010 04:19 PM

Hey, my neck of the woods! Cool.

Lots of nice riding in the area.

CX500- A way under rated motorcycle. Single crank 90 V twin is smooth as an electric motor, decent throttle response at idle and good power up to redline, you can tune it on your lunch hour, and with a little care they are known to roll over the odometer.

Did I see Apple Jam's bike over at the River Tap?

I might just take you up on that idea. :D

That's it exactly, you've learned well. :thumb

That counts as far as I'm concerned. :clap

Good recovery AJ. :lol3

Hey Neighbor! Yeah, we are lucky to have all this great stuff in our backyard...:thumb I do believe Apple visited TD, but that very morning I saw a 990 just like his before I went to meet up with him so....?? Wanna go for a ride sometime?

@ A.J. - Thanks for the compliment, as I explained, I just kind of point and shoot, I guess it does come out kinda Art-Like, doesn't it? :lol3

And this is for LB...an excerpt from my latest RR (will be posting 2nd half tonight)

Yeah, I think the KTM I saw had the big bandaged ADV rider thing on the tank, now that I think about it...

Currently I'm off Tue, Wed, Thurs- and thinking of maybe a short ride tomorrow, if you or anyone else is interested...
