Day tripping on the old Russian towns

Reading the reports in the section «Ride Reports» about travel some people in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Russia, I often see your comments, that Russia for you is like a dark spot, and you might be interested to visit here. So I want to publish the pictures of our day tripping to Russian towns.

Usually, we go with our friends on the weekend trip to an old Russian town, which preserved the unique historical and cultural monuments in Russia. This is usually not more than <st1:metricconverter w:st="on" productid="300 km">300 km</st1:metricconverter>. from Moscow in one end. Sometimes we spend the night in a hotel, sometimes returning to Moscow. So, let's begin.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o />

Rostov or Rostov the Great

The first mention of the city - in 862 yr.
On the western outskirts of the town
, on the shores of Lake Nero, is male Spaso-Yakovlevsky Monastery. Since the monastery acting - all the women at the entrance must wear skirts and hats (all of which can be taken at the entrance).

Really good pictures here and in the other ride reports. I had not seen those reports so glad you had links to them.

I want to visit Moscow one day. It takes a long time to get there from the east coast of the USA though. Maybe some day........

Very interesting story connected with this church.
After the death of the famous russian king Ivan the Terrible in 1584, his younger son Dmitry was sent with his mother to Uglich, and May 15, 1591 an eight-year boy was found dead with cut
throat in the palace courtyard. The locals have decided that it made 2 public servant and killed them and destroyed a police building. For this, new king ordered the execution about 200 people and a large bell, which summoned the citizens to revolt. Bell cut tongue and ear, and deported to Siberia (in the old daysmost of criminals deported to Siberia). Prince's mother forcibly took the veil.
On the spot death of prince Dmitry was initially built a wooden chapel, and in 1692 built the existing stone church. It's called "Church of Prince Dmitry on the Blood."
