Advice Needed - GS Knobs

I want to put some fairly durage, streetable knobbies on me GSPD. I've heard there is a german tire out there that might fill the bill, but are expensive.

Does Shinko make a set of knobs for the Airhead GS?

What tires (50/50 dirt/street) should I consider? Want decent pavement mileage, decent hookup in the wet, good off-road tire.

Let me hear from you! I need advice! You can get me at roger@rogerwiles.com, too.

Read this. bgoosoil's thread about tires has all you need to know.

Mefo's are the German tire. They wear well (long life), have a very streetable tread and are well mannered in the corners, and do pretty well off road. They are a good all-rounder, they are expensive, and you do need to run tubes in them.

If you do a lot of off road I'd recommend the TKCs, but Mefos are excellent all purpose tires.

Hard to say. Sometimes even the most thoroughly researched tire choice will go completely sideways with the wrong oil.

I like them better than I do Anakees or Tourances. So much so that they are all I use now.

ymmv

Ten thoursand MILES? Wow! They seem reasonablly priced, and you've got me sold. TY:clap

Friend of mine can get 8,000 miles out of TKC80'S but he is very steady on the throttle and brakes, real smooth rider.
I cant even get 5,000 miles out of a rear.
I switched to the Hiedneau's they are pretty smooth on the pavement, little quieter than the TKC and more steady at 80MPH, they do have a whine to them on the pavement, a higher pitch sound than the TKC.

What brand for t63s???

bgoodsoil 03-06-2011 11:03 AM

Michelin. I like them on my G/S but they're tube-type so probably not what you're looking for.

don't forget, lots of us love and get great mileage out of gripsters too.
