Pelican cases on my ktm

I think this setup is going to work pretty good.

Those look pretty good...how did you mount them and are they reasonably waterproof?

These bags are supposed to be water tight and there is a rubber o-ring seal in the lid. I think they cost around $80 or $90 each.

I got the mounting clamps at the hardware store for 50 cents I had some ideas for a quick detaching mount but after thinking about it, I decided I would never want to remove them. I will line the inside with wetsuit foam when I get the chance.

Pelican cases are really waterproof. I have a friend/colleague that works photographing rainforests around the world, and he's never had one leak, despite swimming rivers with them and even using them as flotation devices. He has no qualm putting 10,000$ of photo equipment in them and submerging them in his tub for you to see. Quality stuff.

Hey Jim, wassup with the seat barely visible above? Can I trouble ya for some pics and info on it? Maybe start a new thread about it here in Thumpers...

jimjib 09-10-2002 01:28 PM

I will start a new thread on that

Jimjib,

How have the pelicans worked out for you? Any complaints? Do you know what size those are? I'm getting around to doing this myself and those looked like about the right size.

thanks,
dave

Touratech sells just the mounting hardware, which will make any case detachable. Using them for some aluminum cases that I had made by a buddy here. There are 2 sizes: 18mm and 20mm, can't remember which ones I needed, but they work great!

I was looking for a Pelican-case setup for my old LC4, but when I picked up the 640 adv it came with the Tourtech boxes.

In the photo of your bike, are those the Kings 966 tires? How are they holding up. I'm curious, I got a pair & they worked great on the highway, but CHUNKED BIG when I went offroad.

Just curious what others experiences are...

I really like the pelican cases... they have held up great after many crashes. I mounted them using rubber lined conduit clamps and have had to replace a few of those after they broke but I always carry a few spares so its not really a problem. The tourtech mounts sound like the best way to go though.

roughly...18in x 17in x 7in

I've seen him show up with a case of beer, chili, hot dogs, buns and condiments stuffed in those things. :thumb

Well, it seems like TT stopped making the racks or can't sell them any more. KTM is out of stock. If anyone knows where there is a dealer with racks in stock, I'd love to hear from you. I'm dying to ride this bike down to hot springs in two weeks but I need to come up with a luggage solution.

Both www.moto-sportpanniers.com and www.happy-trail.com will sell you their racks and bag mounting kits.

I can vouch for the quality of these. used to work for a safety supply store. drop it off a building, have a 300 pound person jump on them. they hold.
