Airhead shocks

Hey guys,

Can you recommend a decent (fairly priced) set of shocks for an R90/6? I have a pretty tired set of Konis that need replacement.

I was considering Redwings, as I've used them on 2 RDs in the past with good results.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Or you could rebuild your Konis if they aren't too far gone:

Rebuild your Koni's. There are rebuild kits that are complete with all needed seals and o-ring and oil.

If you do decide on new - I'd be interested in getting the Konis.

+1 for rebuild. That's a primary feature with all the aftermarket shocks. With the adjustability, they are 2 orders of magnitude better than originals.

Koni rebuilders with no rust showing are getting $75+ per pair on eBay. You want new Ikons that's how much you get back on that trade.

Rebuild kit and sweat equity with web info step by step avaialble will get you the same function as new with more coin left in your pocket. It is the natural road for all frugal Airheads.

I put shortened ZRX shocks on my R80. Stiff but I like them...

Adjustable compression and rebound.

They have a collar that you can grind off a tab and it shortens them.

I just replaced my Koni 7610's with IKONS. $75 shipped and they're yours. Wirespokes gets first dibs, then I'll open it up.

If your a cheap bargain hunting scab like me you'll be wanting to source a set of perfectly acceptable, nice riding, $200 Hagon shocks.:1drink

Yes, please! Where'd you get the wheels?

And, to the OP, I picked up a pair of YSS shocks for ~200 that work great. I got a discount at the motorcycle show in NYC though. They're not the best in the world, but they are way better than the knackered original shocks.

One of these days, I'd like something like those works shocks.

alister102 06-22-2011 09:36 AM

I almost bought a set of YSS shocks. heard they're designed by the guy who started Wilbers or something like that. They weren't 200 bucks though, more like 300 and the Works shocks were 400 with a 10% MOA discount. considerably less than the upper tier ohlins/wilbers stuff at 600-800.

The winter project got out of hand this year. Started out as a fork and brake upgrade and ended up with a major overhaul. Haven't done a build thread yet, but soon.

Wheels were done at Woody's in CO. 18x2.15 front and 18x2.75 rear sun rims from Buchanan in CA.
