So....... the Dakar is back. Only BM still don't seem to understand that spoked wheels and slightly more suspension travel with the same skinny shitty forks doesn't do it. Surely they can find and bargain for some proper forks.

Are these forks the same model as the old one? Guess it would difficult to check seeing as these are black and therefore a new part number.

Looks like I can keep my own Dakar going for years to come the way BM is going.

I wonder it will even come to the US. BMW has a factory in Brazil, but so far, the bikes it makes are not exported.

Interesting article in the latest Motorcyclist mag over whats being made and where. Along with a lot of guessing on what that means for the future.

Sertao is in Brazil, apparently.

And the dakar rally in S America.

Makes more sense than Honda naming 125cc and 1000cc bikes after a resort in Cuba.

Maybe the mods can merge this with the two other threads about the release of this bike?

Imagine if it had forks with post 1980's technology...

It's all very well criticising this new model for not having the latest technology this or better that...I'm guilty as much as the next guy :wink:. The key thing here is the price point: If it's sold at the same attractive price level as the G650GS or lslightly above, I'm sure there will be plenty of takers. Some buyers want a new bike, some want a BMW and some just want the look!

The technology on Ted Simon's Triumph didn't stop him doing a RTW.

Yeah but seriously, why not take the opportunity to put some USD forks on the thing? Surely it wouldn't add THAT much to the asking price? Might also serve to distract from the smaller tank and reduced hp of the newer model.
