Plate your DirtBike.. whos first ?

Now that we have reached the new year, apparently we can now plate dirt bikes.. interested to see who's able to actually pull this off and how the inspection at the dealer went..

I heard that even though the law was signed, that the DOL is not going to allow it because of Federal regulations. Does anyone have some more info?

The question is where to go for the inspection

So does anyone know of a Dealership that is actually doing this inspection?

I may do this for my WR250F after I've sold my ktm.

The dealership still must sgin off tha the bike complies with applible federal standards.
Even though the DoL website does not say which federal standards are applicable, the written guidance set to dealerships lists 49CFR571.

Persuant to 49USC30112, this is a misapplication of 49CFR571.
The NMA lawyer and I are going around in circles with the DoL on this, but the game is not over yet.

I am also working with legislative committee staff that have been assigned to the issue.

According to Thumpertalk, I90 Motorsports is doing a trial run with a Honda 250X. I'll post up any information that shows up on that thread.

There is nothing in state RCW.46.61.705 or DoL guidance relating to applicable federal standards that would preclude converting 2 strokes.

Looks like the DOL has dropped the federal standards issue! :clap Time to hunt down an XR650R...

Skagit Powersports got the packets from DOL, they're going to start the process at that dealership on the 9th of this month. :clap

I recieved an email from the DoL this morning saying that they would withdraw the 49CFR571 compliance requirement from its dealership guidance.

Cool, I will have to give Jeff a call.

Any word on when they plan to start inspections, etc?

DeFens 01-05-2012 03:29 PM

When I stopped by on Tuesday, he indicated that they were hoping to get started soon, once the Federal compliance issues were ironed out. He was reluctant to do inspections if he was liable for assuring compliance with the 1700 page Federal manufacturers regs.
