Vintage mx restore pics.
This is my 89 Honda CR 125 that I raced last season in the ACRMX series, the whole story is here;

Here's the bike in action last year,

And ready to be torn down.

Coming apart,

A pile of parts,

Polished up the swing arm,

New stickers!

Frame prep, Although it came out like crap so I have it being sandblasted now,

Stripped the paint off the hubs,

Came out nice!

New Moose rims ready to go,

Started to lace up the front and the spokes were wrong so I polished up the old ones and they look great.

Back rim and the spokes were not quite right either but I made them work,

Had to cut the long ones,

Fresh set of Dunlops,

Had to use the Stubby's so i don't scratch the rims, They are much more difficult to use than regular tire irons because they are so thick but really don't scratch them at all.

Sprocket is in good shape just needed the shine put to em

Painted the engine, which had just been rebuilt at the last race of the year so is good to go!

Suspension was sent out for a freshen up and should be back in a day or two,

Thats where I am at, when the frame gets back I can start to assemble which is the fun part.

Thanks Reg!

Did the linkage tonight, all new bushings/bearings,

Threw all the bearings in the freezer next to the onion rings to shrinkem up a couple thousnds,

Cleaned up the linkage parts,

Polished up with some Mothers, look good!

The needle bearings came out in pieces,

All rebushed, bearinged, sealed and greased with waterproof greese, ready to go!!!

Great work bringing back a great old bike.
Love what your doing with the CR. Your doing a great job, and it makes me want to get to work on my 89 YZ250. Just have to get another project out of the way and then I can get started on mine. :D Can't wait to see yours when it is finished.

Love the 89 YZ's, My son and I did this 99 YZ 125 that he raced all last season.

pvangel 01-20-2012 09:17 PM

Kinda of a Yamaha fan anyway, my sons is a 99 and my daily rider is a 11,

Fun bike, I love it!

89 yz250
I bought the 89 YZ for sentimental reasons. I rode an 89 YZ250 from the age of 15-19 and loved that bike. Its funny that this bike that is over 20 years old now is actually in better shape than the YZ I had when I was in high school and it was only a couple of years old then, but had been abused and was about worn out when I got it.. I have also always been a fan of the YZ and would like to have a new YZ250 to play with. You have some good looking YZ's there. Your son's looks great for a 99.

Not 2 smokes but these are for the mini class next year for my son and I,

pvangel 01-21-2012 08:25 PM

I worked on the Mini's all day but did clean up the airbox, someone drilled holes in it and then duct taped the holes up. I am ging to try and find some "soffit" vents to stick in the holes so it looks better, we'll see what I can come up with?

pvangel 01-21-2012 08:25 PM

Or at least black duct tape....
