Your ATGATT list...
I just want to get a general idea of what you guys wear when going on a ride either a dirt ride, pavement ride, or a mixture. I just want to know what protection is essential for every ride.
Couple of questions...
Do you guys wear some armor under your jackets? Say elbow pads? shoulder pads? Or the armor that comes with the jacket is enough?
The same goes for your pants, what do you wear under them?
All the time I see riders come and go with their gear on, but I can only see the outside and I always wonder what is under all that stuff.
I usually ride with:
My jacket that has some soft armor
My pants are built pretty tough but the protection is close to zero, I am trying to find some decent priced knee and shin protectors.
SO what do you guys wear
thanks, if this has been discused I would appreacie direction towards a useful thread, I could not find anything very specific
SixSixOne Assault pressure suit + Elbow pads under jersey
MX Style helmet w/ googles if just dirt or Arai Quantum if road + mild dirt.
Tech 8 boots
If I need street clothes then I wear Carhartt jeans under Darien pants, Darien Jacket, Transopen GTX boots. Quantum helmet, MX gloves. You don't need expensive stuff but don't get the cheapest either. Knee, shin, elbow, back protection =ATGATT.
Some folks think that work boots and Draggin' Jeans are ATGATT but I'm not one of them, no offense meant.
Unless it's quite warm out (I'm still sorting out a summer suit), here's what I'm wearing on a street / DP ride:
Optional hip pads
Bohn back protector
Roadrace gloves (Teknic Violators or similar)
Roadrace or D/P type (Oxtar Infinity) boots
Feel like I'm forgetting something here ... :dunno
I am certainly an ATGATT believer and from my assortment of gear, I will chose my riding gear based on the bike I am riding, duration of the ride and weather conditions but will always include the following from head to toe:
Full faced helmet (occasionaly an open face for rides of very short duration, such as over to a friends house in the neighborhood)
Armoured jackets of which I have several ranging from leather with soft armour (touring) leather with hard armour (for sport riding and track days), Waterproof styles for touring, GS'ing and cooler temps and mesh with armour for summer.
Back Protector for sport rides and track days.
Protective gloves, too many styles for all riding styles and conditions. I always ride with at least 2 pair (one waterproof just in case) with me sometimes 3.
Armoured pants in same combinations as jackets, plus I do use Draggin Jeans for casual rides.
Armoured boots, I use different ones for toruing, sport and casual rides, but all have ankle & shin protectors.
I have most of my gear lined up on a rack in my garage next to my bikes, which my non riding friends have dubbed the "Bat Cave" as they don't understand why I need so much gear in so many varieties.
Still looking for that one do-it-all riding suit that will be warm in winter, cool in summer, dry in the rain, breathable in the hot, while being protective, comfortable and stylish. In the mean time I will use the myriad of combinations from my collection which usally guranttees that I have the wrong gear on for any given weather condition. :D
definitions vary....and I do my best......according to some here, this would be the only way to ride.....the anti-grizzly-bear-suit.....:rofl
I'm a gear collector:

Gear- you ride you wear it!
For me it's pretty simple; I look at my body and then think which area am I going to enjoy having belt-sanded or become a pin in a bowling alley with. Now that that's out of the way I just put on my Arai full face, some variation of am aerostich 1 or 2 piece, my BMW boots, and my violators gloves. If you're getting technical- yes on elbow, shoulder, spine, hip, knee, ankle armor (hard). I see a few guys riding around here on R1's and the such with shades, jeans, t-shirt and get this their HELMET locked on the side of their bike while theyare riding. Now people know the phrase ASSHAT
Helmet: Arai XD, full-face
Jacket: Aerostich Darien with shoulder/elbow pads
Pants: Aerostich Darien with knee pads
Gloves: Elkskin ropers from a feed store ($24)
Boots: Various, leather over the ankle
My ATGICA List

Helmet: Arai Quantum f/ and earplugs
Jacket: BMW Savanna II
Pants: BMW Commuter Pants
Boots: Mid-calf protective boots
amber glasses at night
sunglasses during the day
I don't leave home without them.
Depends, on street usually an Olympia jacket, waterproof sidi tour boots and firstgear HT overpants, dainese gloves and a shoei x11 helmet.
If it's gonna get heavier offroad I drop on a pair of tech 8 boots, scotts goggles and an Oniel dirt helmet.
I just killed my firstgear HT's though, looking at some darien pants now.
I have two principles:
Wear all the gear i can afford to buy without the wife splitting my head open with a frying pan for spending so much on gear. (thus defeating the purpose).
Don't spend more on gear than I spent on the bike.
Whoops - looks like I am already in violation of Principle #2 :D
I've been using the following, which has worked well for me in a broad range of conditions (rain, sun, heat, daily driving, week long, moderate off-road):
Darien jacket (stock pads + backpad)
Darien pants (stock pads + hip pads)
Boots (Sidi Strada or Aerostich CTB)
Gloves (First Gear mesh tex(?) or insulated for cold weather)
Helmet (Shoei RF1000 or Nolan N100)
