LC4 Suspension options
asked this over at KTMTalk but didn't get a lot of responses. I am hoping to beef up the springs on my 02 Adventure both front and back. Specifically I am hoping to hear from others about what rate springs they went with.
I am around 280 in street clothes and will be loading the bike down (even further ;) for a 1500 mile ride here in about a month and a half so trying to keep from killing the ol girl.
I emaild Race Tech; I have used their products before on other bikes but they said the don't carry what I need for the LC4. I'm also talking to a local suspension shop but he has not done a lot of 640's either so he suggested I try and get some feedback from others that have done this. C'mon, I know all of ya can't be running stock springs and I know I aint the only fatty (not naming names) riding a katoom 640
Might not hurt to talk to the WP folks.
Its tuff being a big guy in a small mans world. People above 6'2" make up less than 2% of the population. Let me know what you find out and I'll do the same.
Sommer-KTM (Europe's biggest KTM dealer) recommends these spring rates at www.sommer-ktm.de for the fork:
3.8 N/mm Ideal for light off-road rider weighting less than 55kg/123lbs
(Standard set-up in EXC 125/200)
4.0 N/mm For rider weighting less than 75kg/167lbs (EXC 250/300)
4.2 N/mm EXC 4 strokes, LC4 640 Enduro, SXC 625, SX 125
4.4 N/mm For SX with EXC model or for off-road rider over 95kg/211 lbs
(SX 250, LC4 Adventure -2004, Super Moto 2004)
4.6 N/mm For touring with bags, riding with passenger or for supermoto
(LC4 Adventure 640 2005, SM 625/640/660 2005)
4.8 N/mm Lot of luggage or Super Moto on streets (950, Rallye Replica 660)
5.0 N/mm Super Moto Sport (SM 640 2002/2003, SMC 660 2003)
I went for 4.8, but I can't comment how they work. Springs have just arrived and are not yet installed.
About the shock they say:
50/260 For light or small rider.
56/260 LC4 1993-
60/260 Competition 1994
63/260 SXC 635 2005
66/260 LC4 Enduro 2005
70/260 Supermoto 2005, Adventure 640 1997-2005
75/260 Rallye Dakar, Supermoto 2004
80/260 Lot of luggage.
At the back I still have the original 70/260. I may change that later, but I am not sure.
