And with all that said, I just got a pair of Kevlar pants to match my Ultra II jacket.:clap

I'm very pleased with my Motoport stuff. I gathered my kit over a period of time. One item at a time. I would also be very reluctant to spend (risk) that kind of money all at once. I guess; I'm suggesting patience and order one, or two items, at a time making sure its what you want.

All my Motoport stuff has outlasted all my other gear by a large margin. My only problem has been my own weight creep over the years. Every once in awhile I lose some weight and I'm wearing it again.

Where is motoport located in California? I'm thinking that if I do end up getting a suit I'd probably fly out there and purchase right on site, and inspect everything for fit beforehand. My brother just moved to San Diego, so I was wondering how far away they are. Thanks!

They are located 35 miles north of San Diego in San Marcos which is in between Carlsbad and Escodido.

It's totally worth it to make an appointment and go in.

Kev.

I almost oredered yesterday until I read about the abrasiveness. I have a brand new 1200RT ( 2 days old, 50 miles (would be more but it's been raining)) and I certainly don't want to see scratches caused by my pants.

Are the stretch pants as abrasive as the mesh? Anybody know? I was leaning towards air mesh (live in Ohio) because I still remember sitting in traffic in 90 degree temps with 90% humidity last year and smelling like a goat when I got to my destination. If the stretch would be easier on the bike finish, I'll suffer in the heat to protect the bike.

What is this 3M plastic? Where would I get it? It reminds me of my aunt who wrapped her living room furniture in plastic - which I guess I can now understand ;-)

i have both the stretch and the mesh and the stretch is not abrasive. it's quite soft, actually, and probably softer than the cordura on 'Stich suits and dynatec on some bmw suits.

there is airflow through the stretch but you really have to be moving a bit.

I understand your concern, oodude. I heard about the abrasion issue before ordering and am equally concerned but I'll solve it. I went ahead and ordered the waist cut air mesh, with the air mesh pants and both liners and though I've only had them for 4 days and two rides I am sold on them. I live in South Texas where you need air flow but I ride to New England (Laconia and Americade) and many other northern areas of the country where the air mesh are just as needed, like Ohio, where I have left a lot of sweat!

Try this link to start to get you acquainted with the 3M material: http://www.thetankslapper.biz/online...store/main.htm

I plan to call them tomorrow to discuss the tankslapper and 3M material but I'm also calling a local shop that installs the 3M material, which is permanent, can't be seen, and does not harm the paint in the slightest. A friend had the 3M film put on his fairing several years ago and his fairing is in perfect condition today. The stuff is really super. The 3M stuff is great and when you pull it off, if you ever do, they'll be no marks. 3M guarantees that the non covered paint and the covered paint will fade at exactly the same rate and therefore there will be no marks if you remove the film. All paint fades, though at a slow rate.

The difference in the 3M and tankslapper is that the tankslapper stuff can be put on and taken off and is easier for the do-it-yourselfers. The 3M is great but it can only be taken off once. Anyway, I'm probably already telling you more than I know(!) so I'll cool it and let you call and investigate.

I'm using a tank bra now and I'll tell you that I am very impressed with the gear. I'm heading out this afternoon to test it some more. Yesterday, because it was raining, I put it on and off with and without the liners, with and without my Gerbing stuff, with and without street clothes, etc., to see how it all fits and to develop systems for putting it on. It is easy, Man. The pants, with liner attached, seemed a bit daunting right out of the box but once you start slowly and work it out it is easy. I read where a fellow poster, Gringo, who started this great thread on cycleport gear, puts his pant liner on first and then puts on his liner. That's cool if it works for him but I put them on together and have a great system for easily doing it.

Don't give up on the stuff but there is no way I'm going to scratch my tanks so I understand your concern.

I agree with Harley1550 (:eek1 yes, Harley it's true...:D ), I wouldn't let the potential for scratches stop you from purchasing what are probably one of the elite in terms of protective pants. If you're concerned, the 3M stuff should work great and I know a lot of guys who use it and love it.

I've owned the Ultra II Kevlar pants for about a year now and although I have some very light surface scratches from where my knees make contact with the tank, I also seem to have a paint job that scratches just from breathing on it!! It's not noticeable unless you look really close and should be simple to buff out the next time I wax it. After I do that I'm going to either buy knee pads that stick onto the tank or the tankslapper stuff.

Gringo,
I have learned a lot from this thread. Have been considering Motoport clothing. One thing has me curious that you did not elaborate on. Why the switch from a one piece to a two piece suit? I have been thinking how convenient a one piece would be. Especially for commuting to/from work about 45 minutes each way.

I am still completely on the fence between the two kevlar fabrics though!

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the site and riding (no bike yet, no MSF course yet, no license yet) and have been reading your site for a couple days now. I set out to find the best protective gear, which led me to Motoport, which led me to this site for more info.

I've read a couple other threads and will be reading a lot more. I'm way back on page 14 of this thread still reading, but I figured I'd jump ahead and ask a few questions.

1. Is there anyone from Michigan here that has worn the Stretch Kevlar pants and jacket, and how were they in the humid summers? We don't have the hottest summers, but damn are they humid.

2. Does anyone have a pic of a jacket in gray, stretch kevlar?

3. How about a pic of the yellow in the stretch kevlar? It seems like the yellow pics were of the Mesh, and it looks sort of like a green. Was just wondering if maybe the stretch was a better yellow. Again, even better if you have a pic of an all yellow stretch jacket.

I'd like to see the materials and jacket in person, so I'll probably ask for some samples. The pants I'll definitely be getting in black, but I'd like the jacket to be higher vis. I really like the color yellow in general, but not sure about Motoport's yellow. Hoping the stretch is more of a basic yellow and that it would look good as a GP2 or Riva AX jacket. I've requested pics from Motoport, so we'll see what they've got.

I need to get some photoshop skills and find a good combo.

Thanks

I chose the two piece solution so I could use either overpants with jeans underneath them or the jeans styled stretch Kevlar pants worn by themselves.

I don't necessarily think a one-piece Motoport suit would be that convenient. It's a little more involved than you might imagine. For convenience, Aerostich is probably the way to go.

I'm positive I posted these pics to advrider, but couldn't find them. So here is a direct link to my smugmug gallery of the gear.

and here is another thread with photos of grey motoport in stretch, I believe:

Good luck!

In almost all clothes I buy I'm usually a large and occassionaly extra-large. So my motoport pants??? XS!!!! :lol3 :rofl

They fit perfect too! Oh well, I'd much rather have a screwed up label than screwed up pants!

Maybe XL Short :dunno
