New project, 1971 Yamaha RT1 360
 
Just picked this up today. I had a DT2 in highschool and have been on the lookout for an old Yammi enduro for a while when this one fell in my lap. 4500 miles and I believe it, Will need a good cosmetic going over. Motor is free and great compression. The price was too good to ignore IMO. All parts needed are in the box, plus a bunch of new stuff, brake shoes, cables, etc. Should be a fairly easy resto. Problem is I have to finish some remodeling projects first so it will be after the first of the year before I can get started. That's a killer, although a great incentive to get this remodeling done :)

I should be able to salvage the original chrome and paint on the gas and oil tank fairly easily. Paintless dent removal for the one minor dent and some touch up and buffing and she'll look like a million bucks. And NO rust inside the tank, woo hoo. Always a huge plus.

That's a pretty clean looking unit. I had a 72 DT360 back around '81 or so. I remember it being a fun bike. Yours doesn't look like it needs much. Good luck.

I'll do a leak down test. I never had to touch the seal on my 1970 Suzuki, it tested well and has been doing great for 8 months now.

If they leak they get changed out. I'll pop the head and see what the bore looks like. Compression is wicked good so unless it really needs something, I'll leave the bore alone.

Interesting to note on these old RT1's is that the shift shaft goes all the way through, splined on both sides. Can be left or right side shift. Great for vintage dirt tracking.
