A Plastic Glue
I purchased some tank protectors from Touratech so my seat bag straps won't mark the edges of the tank panels.
http://www.touratech-usa.com/Store/2...GS-F650GS-Twin They came with a tube of glue which looked and smelt like silicone sealant. But when I used it as recommended the tank protectors just slid straight off. I put them back in place and held them with tape for 24 hours but I could still easily remove them, so I gave up with that idea. Any suggestions for a suitable glue which won't eat plastic? Also it has to be able to fill the void between the tank protectors and the body panel, as the aren't a snug fit. |
I would use black RTV but it will take a while to dry. You could still remove it but not easily. You could also use the 3m adhesive tape they put auto trim on with. Its not really tape but a double sided rubber like substance with peel and stick on both sides. Its about 1/16" thick. If I used the tape I would run a bead of RTV around the gaurd where it meets the paint. I wouldn't want dirt and grit to get between the gaurd and the paint. GH

Typical touratech gadgetry ripoff.
Of course now you have bought it, but you could also have used several layers of vinil wrap. |
Thanks GH41
I'll try Silastic 732 RTV or Selleys 401, both come in clear. It may have been what Touratech had anyway and I didn't allow enough curing time. |
Well it worked a treat - Silastic 732 clear.
