Going by the blue paint showing through on the last photo, Im guessing an IT.

Looks like you might well be right Homer, off to the bay of evil with it I think.
Many thanks |
no alloy tanks on the it series. plastic only. by looking at the shape of it i would say post 1977 - maybe up till 1985 or so.
-edit> i maybe wrong - 1976 it400c could be steel tank? i've never seen one in person.. |
late 70's early 80's husky ??

Definitely alloy, nicely made, looks factory?

My guess would be it suits an IT/YZ 465 as the cap looks to be IT size and the shape is very similar. Not a factory tank Jason, Also note the boost bottle bracket on the bottom right side of the one you have. http://www.mxworksbike.com/OW41_4_750.jpg http://www.cyclechaos.com/images/thu...lue-2100-5.jpg http://www.cyclechaos.com/images/thu...lue-2100-6.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3496/3...5bf_z.jpg?zz=1 |
A buddy of mine picked up a cherry IT,250 or 400 and it had a custom alloy tank on it,so somebody makes the things. It sold well on ebay.

It is an IT tank, and if aluminum, it was possibly a factory enduro tank or an after market unit. But I never remember any after market places making alloy tanks for IT's even though that is an IT tank.

Thanks for all the help guys, wouldnt have had a clue where to start looking without your collective expertise. Its a nice tank, wish I had a bike to put it on but its a bit small for my Beemers! It will soon be on its way to another home via that auction site!
Much as Id like to build a bike around the tank I dont think my other half would be very easily convinced! "I got the tank cheap so I might as well buy a bike to go with it luv" ;) Cheers Jason |
