1983 Suzuki GR650 Tempter. $400 from the local pawn shop; non-running condition.

I cut off some of the rear subframe

I cut out some frame tubes that were in the way. I welded in a piece of rebar real quick to make sure I could still get the engine in and out then I replaced it with a new tube that matched the frame

I'm building a Street Tracker (street legal flat track bike).

Looks like he's going to fix the appearance of the back half of the GR like you mentioned in the other GR650 thread!

To expand more on Radian's question, I really like the look of dirt track bikes; they just look like they would be a blast to ride. My favorite all time dirt tracker is the Honda RS750:

I set out to build a replica a little while back, but I was nervous about the build because I really wanted to get everything right. Then I found the GR and I thought it would be a great bike to learn on so I started cutting it up.

Yup. That's probably the best looking GR out there. I found another website out there with more pics of that build, but there was very little written info on it.
