Aluminum Case protective decals

I couldn't find a topic in the search engine for my question so I will ask. I have owned my 2012 GSA for a month now. My shoes and my wife's shoes sometimes rub on the top of our BMW side cases when we board the bike no matter how careful we try to be. I know the bike is going to get scrapes but since we paid 20K plus for a new bike, I'd like to keep it looking new as long as possible. I was watching some GSA you tube videos saw a GSA that had some custom GS decals added to the top of the cases in what appeared to be protective decals. Are these available somewhere for purchase? I have looked at buying 3M diNOC carbon fiber film and just fitting it on the cases if there is nothing else available. Any suggestions and pictures of ideas appreciated. Thanks

Drop it

Take the pig out into the driveway and drop it on each side. This will "Adventurize" the pig and keep you from spending money on farkles that don't really do anything. :D

I'd recommend you upgrade to riding boots instead of "shoes" :deal

I'm not sure if this is the 3M stuff you are talking about: http://www.shop3m.com/3m-scotchgard-...snfdp95rv.html
The same thing as used for the "clear bra" on cars. I've thought about using it.

And what sticker will protect a dropped or dumped bike? Just sayin'.

I cut out and adhered a thin piece of black rubber to the tops of my panniers. No more scuffs and items (tools etc) will now stay placed on top even if the bike is on the side stand.

Skateboard grip tape which I cut to a custom fit. No scuffs and prevents anything you set on the lids from slipping off.

The other angle here is friction...when I strapped a tent or chair to the "hood" of my Jesse, I found it would be slipping around even tho it was strapped down to the top. I thought about skateboard tape, and worried it might cause friction tears on the outer bags, so I went with friction tape for stairs, which it is slightly less abrasive, and would also solve JeepDude's issue. About $4 at Home Depot. And you're supposed to step on it! So to speak.

+1 on the slateboard grip tape. I made the same mod almost immediately after buying my '09 R12GSA. A buddy of mine did the same thing, but he used a checkerboard pattern grip tape. There are many patterns/designs to choose from!

If you don't want grip tape then google map your area for a place that makes vinyl decals for store window, race cars and such.

Tell them what you want and they will advise you on the best option. They can make it in whatever color and size you want and the non permanent stuff works based on static and will last about 7 years. After that long it will still peel off with a little heat (hair dryer in winter or full sunlight in summer). They can also do full color graphics printing on a base stock of white vinyl that is also completely weather proof.

That also leaves you the option of peeling it off if you don't like it or getting an extra set to make everything look new again when/if you do drop it some day.

Thanks for the suggestions! I never thought about using grip tape. I like that better than the 3m stuff. I have used the 3m Tankslapper kit on my other bikes but I wanted a different color/option for the panniers top. Thanks for the pictures and suggestions, even the smart a** comments! LOL

The cases are bare aluminum. Light scuffs can be touched up with a bit of polishing.

How about spray on bed liner?

The skateboard tape idea is awesome. This is why I love reading these forums. I am always getting new ideas.
