2008 1200 GS - Rumbling and popping in the exhaust

Recently got a 2008 GS with less than 8k miles. I rode a 2010 GSA several weeks ago on a test ride, and rode a buddy's GS for a short while. But a difference I have noticed on my new GS is when I am decelerating it pops and rumbles in the exhaust. Especially coasting up to a stop in second gear. Usually a pop like a kind of backfire. I don't recall hearing about this before and I didn't experience it with the other GSs I rode. Is this something to be worried about??

As far as I know, its just a characteristic of the boxer engine. I'd say its nothing to worry about.

If you leave some throttle rolled on while decelerating it is common to hear some pooping / backfiring. If it happens without some throttle added I would consider adjusting the valves. This is just my opinion some one else may know more.

Popping during deceleration

I adjusted my valves and the popping you described stopped immediately.

Hmm, I've adjusted my valves a few times now but the popping is always there on my 07
My HD does it too... compression braking gives me some pops
