meh

chollo9 11-16-2012 07:55 AM

meh indeed.

can't think of a retro thing that isn't an overweight, overstyled blahmobile

and how are they going to pull off an aircooled motor? regs pretty much have killed that option

It won't be an airhead, so no point to this being in the Airheads section:

It kind of looks like a /7 in profile. At least the front half. The /7 looks better though.

I lost interest when "sheer riding pleasure" fell victim to the "innovative technology".

Ugh. Meh^3

This new styling paradigm. I saw this in another forum here, referering to another brand of bike, but it fits: riding this seems to be like trying to hump a watermelon.

Obviously the graphic in that article is an artist rendering. To me the aesthetic seems bobber/cafe which I don't normally find appealing but in this case I actually do!

I recall a while back getting jazzed about the MotoGuzzi Cafe Classic. As soon as I found out the "carbs" were faux, the love affair was over. I'm just curious how this new Airhead will be handled.

The same... there's no way a modern streetbike that size will meet the emissions limits w/o fuel injection and a catalyst.

And your justification for falling out of love with that Guzzi is pathetic. Think about it... you could have had the looks of "retro" carbs, but with the advantages of fuel injection.

Sorta like marrying a pretty but penniless lady who likes to ride, and then she inherits a big wad of money. :1drink

I never bought into the "regs killed large capacity aircooled motorcycle motors" tale and neither did, among perhaps the most obvious, Moto Guzzi and HD.

I do not think that there is a volume market for a new airhead motor unless it does everything the next generation water cooled boxers will do. I certainly do not think the current airhead owners will flock to a new airhead bike. Would position it as a limited edition at a premium over say the R1200R. If you are not going to sell a bunch might as well recognize this up front and at least try to male a decent margin on all you can sell.

One parallel. Look at how frequently Moto Guzzi V7 Classics and Racers come up for sale with less than 5,000 miles on their clocks. Bought for show not go.
