Exhaust Mufflers ?
Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse with this subject, but I can't seem to find anything in the searches I have done. My 2011 990R has the stock can exhausts on it with Catalytic Converters built in. Performance is not my issue, bike runs plenty fine, however the heat from the header pipes is uncomfortable when riding long distance. Gets hotter than hell down there and I've tried several different riding boots. I mainly use Alpinestar Tech 10 or Tech 8. Tried other lighter boots and still hotter than hell on long distance rides
If I change out the exhausts to a aftermarket set what will happen to: [LIST=1][*]Temperature on Header Pipes? Will it go down [*]Do I need to make any adjustment to the mapping?[*]Yes I know it will sound great and weigh less, but that is not what I'm looking for.
Any feedback from guys with EFI bikes is really appreciated. :evil Thanks |
I have the same bike. I noticed the same heat issues and switched the stock cans out to the FMF Hard Parts mufflers. Lost about some weight, had to re-map, gained some low-end, good sound, no more heat issues!. Then I decided that I needed the Neduro auxiliary 2.2 tank, so i got the Remus 2-1 system. Lost a bunch more weight, good sound, no further re-mapping needed, and I can go 300 miles on one fill up.
Tons of options out there, let me know if you are interested in the FMF cans at a good price. |

Lexx cans on '11 990-R
Here is the thread of the install of the Lexx cans on the 990-R :clap:clap:clap
Hope it helps! http://advrider.com/forums/showthrea...4#post19129304 |

Not to detract from the OP, but is the 2-1 system specific for Remus cans, or will any of the aftermarkets fit them? To clarify could I have a 2-1 with an Akro can?
|
CJRacer does a 2-1 conversion on the stock H pipe. and any aftermarket single can works great on the 9*0 machines.

If you go 2-1 aand Remus don't get the carbon can. Myself and many others have had them fail, Ti is the answer.
Edit: to be fair Remus stepped up and gave me a ti replacement with no hassle, I've read they did the same for others but don't reccomend carbon for use as a single. |

I love the note of my (With Baffle inserted) Remus Ti single exhaust.

I'm sure the neighbors are impressed....although in all honesty 95% of Harley pipes around here are just that...pipes. My "who makes those?" bike probably doesn't even raise an eyebrow. |
I went with the Lexx as well, not very expensive, got rid of most of the heat issues and with the spark baffles removed it sounds awesome. I did have to remap and it really came alive!:clap

HMF TRUE DUALS HERE. loud n proud !

2 into 1
There's a guy on here trying to sell a single Gualdi can. Oh, wait that's me....:rofl
It works well with Craig's 2-into-1 mid pipe. Price is down to $100 + shipping. I could let you hear it over the phone. Less weight nad heat. Sound is good, but not too loud. I didn't have change jetting, either. |
Wings
I run the WINGS dual slip-ons with the mid DB killers, spark arresstors installed. As advertised: no need to re-map. MUCH LESS HEAT. Even the engine temp runs a couple of bars cooler on average. Nice sound. Better performance.
I guess you could always get the Alpinestars ASBESTOS model boots.......:D |
