gearhead cylinder index

Maybe your worth to the gearhead world can be judged by the # of cylinders you own/support. start counting, anything internal combustion, running or not spare engines , weed eaters etc. they all count.

:D 38 working pistons

39 yrs old C.I.=.974

SloMo228 12-09-2012 07:43 PM

Let's see...

4 in my little truck
4 in each of my GL1000s
6 in the GL1500
2 in the CX650

Another 10 for spare engines.

Oh, and one each for the lawnmower and trimmer. :D

So, 32 total.

DaveStockwell 12-09-2012 09:10 PM

Dang. And I just sold my pickup. Ok, as of today...25. 3 cars, two bikes and a plethora of gas powered landscaping noise makers.

Contevita 12-09-2012 09:22 PM

8 in my F150
4 in my Blackbird
4 in my Type 3 Karmann Ghia
4 in my spare Type 3 motor

...for a total of 20.

You're missing a vital part of the equation. Your CI is the number of cylinders you own divided by your age. Any gearhead worth his salt has a CI of at least .5 - The idea is that you continue to acquire engines.

I'm 34 and am at a CI of 1.06

I've got my list posted on another site. Let me dig it up.

gravityisnotmyfriend 12-09-2012 09:41 PM

Seems I misremembered. My CI was 1.18 when I was 33. Here's the post I made on it:

Quote:

For those unfamiliar, your cylinder index is the number of internal combustion cylinders you own (running or non running) divided by your age. For any gear head, a respectable C.I. is .5 - gaining a 1.0 or better is a goal worth striving for.

Mine? I'm at the borderline hoarders number of 1.18

My cylinders (from greatest to least)

'85 Pontiac Trans Am - 8
'09 Dodge Grand Caravan - 6
'04 Saturn Vue - 4
'92 Polaris 600 - 3
'79 Kawsaki Drifter - 2
'80 Kawsaki Drifter - 2
'91 Arctic Cat El Tigre - 2
'74 Raider TT - 2
'05 Honda Shadow - 2
'71 CB350 - 2
'71 Cl350 parts engine - 2
MTD Lawn Tractor - 2
Push Mower - 1
Weed Wacker - 1

Grand total of 39 and I am 33 years old.

Keep in mind that I am not counting the nearly 50 RC airplane engines that I own that technically count - but am leaving out so I don't have the crazy C.I. of over 2.5.

So, how about it? What's your Cylinder Index?
And, that's not including the KTM I've bought since then!

I do like the part about putting your age in the equation. I had never seen that before.
I`m 54 which would make my CI = 2.74

Can I count the 400 pieces of equipment that I am responsible for at work? That would push my CI very high!!
