Background and History
The motorcycle oriented Trans-America Trail was designed as a west bound trip across the U.S.A. The trail starts in Tellico Plains, Tennessee and extends to Port Orford, Oregon. The trail took over 12 years to create, is approximately 4,977 statute miles long and covers nine (9) states across the U.S.A. The trail has been updated and modified over the years due to normal changes that occur and is maintained by the Trans-America Trail team and volunteers. The Trans-America Trail is also known as the TAT. There is an adventure bicycling Trans America Trail that is different from the motorcycle version of the Trans-America Trail.
Trans-America Trail creator Sam Correro, says, "Hi, I'm Sam Correro. For years I passionately pursued my goal of charting a coast-to-coast, off-pavement motorcycle adventure. I studied reams of maps and surveyed thousands of miles to create what I believe is one great trip. Over time, I began to realize that a lot of people share my interests."

Trail Notes and Information
1. Recommended Daily Riding Distances - 150 to 200 statute miles
2. Recommended seat time of approximately 6 hours per day. Average 10 hours in the field daily.
3. Time to ride entire route end to end in one trip - Approximately 24 to 30 days.
4. Fuel, motels, camping available. Best practices during planning or operational phases will ensure availability of motel rooms.
5. Recommended motorcycle - Dual Sport, street licensed, 400-800cc. Larger bikes and displacement acceptable in most states other than CO. and UT. due to some medium uphill sections where smaller bikes are more agile and manageable.

As an FYI, some of that info from that page is outdated. Sam spent some time in in 2011 remapping and redoing many portions of the TAT. It now begins in Tellico, TN and the entire section of TN & MS were re-mapped and updated.
I rode from Jellico, TN to the AR/OK border in 2009 and then in 2012 rode the new section from Tellico TN to the MS border and also ran the MS Hill country North & South.

What did you think of the new route? What were your average hours of seat time and distances daily?
you could list some of the TAT ride reports, in your first post. There's a bunch of good ones. I have a prep and ride report in my sig.
For the most part, I liked the new route in TN compared to the old route, although part of me missed the 4 slick water crossings that were great for some crazy pics, but they were a double edge sword too if you went crashing down in them. I still felt the TN section hit a lot more pavement for my liking and some of that was obviously stuff that had just been paved in the last year. Over all though, the TN route remained scenic and very rural roads and was still very enjoyable. I think its just the nature of where the TN route goes. If it dropped down into N. GA and/or N. AL I think more dirt could be incorporated into the route.
MS was definitely a lot better than the previous route and very enjoyable. There is lots of good dirt and gravel in MS. The MS hill country routes were really enjoyable too.
I still need to make it out West on the TAT, but living in the SE, that's a bit more challenging time wise.
