2012 GSA Valve Adjustment

Got a new 2012 GSA and need to adjust the valves. Done this many times on my old 2000 R1100R, but now they need shims. Anyone have any experience/advice on how to do this?? Source for instructions and/or video?? Nearest dealer is a 3 hour trip and the cost makes my wallet pucker!!

Thanks

Thanks this is excellent. Only one last question. What should the clearance be?? Is it the 0.15 and 0.30mm like the pre 2010 where you adjusted the clearance with the screw post (sorry don't know the formal name).

Many thanks for the reply!!

Exhaust .30 to .40mm
Intake .13 to .23mm

So about a .10 tolerance for both. I think the spec is different than the pre 2010 models.

The pictorial from San Jose BMW is really good, indeed.

I'd be curious to see how long the R-bike's DOHC valves stay in spec. On my last three K-bike motors, the valve lash was still (just so) in range at about 60k miles on the odometer.

+1

Personallly, on a new bike, I set them on the loose side instead of the tight untill the valves have settled in. Then set them at the mid point. Better to have clacking valves than a burnt ones

Many thanks

Excellent feedback from all, thank you!! Being I am in Minnesota and it was -17 this morning, not too much riding for me. Time to go into my heated shop and start playing with bikes and:freaky dream of an Early spring!!

OK one last question, I know I said that already. Anyone know how to reset the "Maintenance" reminder on the Odometer screen?? I have not played with this yet and nothing in the Owners Manual. Personally not worth the paper it was written on.

GS911 tool or the dealer. Those are your only options.
