F800GS Alternative Headlight Units
I was wondering if someone could summarise which aftermarket fairings that have headlights in are available for the F800GS? We have pretty stringent (compared to the US) restrictions that require an annual inspection and headlight scraped through last year. Since then, it has deteriorated further (condensation regularly forms on the inside, the reflective material has flaked away in places, misting of the exterior lense has gotten worse) and I suspect it would now fail. So now seems a good time to look into it.
For clarification, I'm talking about replacing the actual bug-eyed thing the reflector/headlights fit into. So, I'm talking more MST Rallycomp, as opposed to the TT Desierto/Britannia Composites "screens" I currently have HID (both high and low beam) H4 bulbs in my standard headlight unit and ideally would like to keep these and use them to replace whatever comes in the fairings, rather than take a downgrade in the quality of my lighting. I'd prefer something designed for the F800GS, but I have a dremmel, so I'd also be interested in seeing/hearing about any types others have successfully fitted, even if they were for another bike. You could check out what Lost Rider did. One big badass light.

As far as I know there is nothing on the market designed for the 800gs that is a bolt on...
I'm using the trailtech 8" HID on my bike... not road legal... May check out the h4 conversion kit some people sell for the light it may help you. Britannia Composites also sells bolt on kits that you can retrofit.... here's mine http://rtwtraveler.smugmug.com/Other...3_155219-M.jpg |

You are not going to get an aftermarket HID conversion kit through MOT, at least not if the inspector knows what he is doing.
The Rallycomp is the only replacement fairing I have seen, but if you are willing to cut off the bracket on the steering head you have a myriad of aftermarket options, like Ben above with the Trailtech 8" light, or the equivalent from Baja Designs. The most likely to pass option is the TT 8" frame with a Hella high/low light bucket insert that should be available with both "E" and "DOT" markings. Boatman on this forum makes the adapter plates, and Cyclops sells the entire unit with his plate and a Hella insert so you don't have to throw away the TT insert. |

I cut my plug and wired mine to the hi beam wires so I can turn it off. There's just 2 wires each for the low and hi beam lights. The biggest deal is having to cut the frame bracket off to clear the light housing. This is with the baja designs light tho, I don't know if you have to do that with the trail tech light. |
Saw this one too... Looks like its inmate "snowy's"

I am attempting to redo the headlight on my f800 to a 3 LED light setup. I have about 90% of the parts but I am waiting on a part from the machine shop. Hopefully in the next few weeks I might be able to show it off. The hardest part for me is the electrical side with how I want the wiring done.

The wiring completely bypasses the harness. It is wired simply just two wires to the battery thru a on off push button switch. And yes with the trail tech light the frame mount still needs to be cut. |
