Highway Dirt Bikes and Heated Grips
I'm putting Symtec heated grips on my bike and don't like the little toggle switch.
I want to get the Highway Dirt Bikes top clamp so I can turn them on or off. My question is can I get the one with the little turn dial to act as the rheostat to control the current? I'm thinking turn on the grips with the push button and control the current with the dial. OR turn on the grips and control the current with the dial. I'd also like to have the little LED light up so I know that they're on. For those familiar with these, can I use the one from the HDB or do I need to get a stand alone controller ala Geek's Gerbring setup, post #206 in "Back in Black"? |

I used a top clamp that Paul made me for other gear, fans & such- http://hondo.smugmug.com/Motorcycles...DB_Setup-L.jpg |

Nice setup. |
You could mount the heat troller to an Ipod mount or switch mount-

I mounted my remote adjust heat troller behind the dash with the knob in the top left corner. The troller I use is the on/off and adjustment. The troller duty cycles the grip...adjustments will increase the on time and reduce the off time. Duty cycles control the net heat output.

I don't know much, but I do know that you can't use just a rheostat to control your heated grips. You can use an on-off switch and LED where you say, and then get a LED dimmer to mount somewhere else for the heat control. The LED dimmer is just a cheap way to get a PWM control. I've got one on my symtec heated grips, works great- ADVRonski did a little write up here in O.C. somewhere. Mount the pot where you can get to it, and remotely mount the rest of the circuitry- run the whole thing into the hi part of the grips, ignore the low circuit completely.

Just heard back from Paul yesterday (I think, what day is it?) and he said get him some dimensions and specs of what I'm doing and we'd make something work.
Man good customer service is refreshing... |
You won't find any better than Paul.
