AltRider's Taste of Dakar 2013
 

Hey all. I was just curious. Is anyone going to this event? The AltRider’s Taste of Dakar. I was considering it because it looked like a lot of fun and a bang for the buck. I’ll put some information up so that you guys can take a look. It looks like Jimmy Lewis will be around to give out some very much needed off road training for us big bike riders. On my radar since November.... Depends on a few things, but I'm almost ready to write it in pen.

I'm planning on being there. Wanted to ride there but the pesky Cascades or Sierras are in my way with tons of snow...guess I'll have to load up the gas guzzler Land Rover. :(

A couple of my loonie friends are riding there from SC doing 1200 miles per day...riding the event and turning around and riding home 1200 mi per day...

anybody coming down from Reno area? Wanna carpool? I have navigator and 12' trailer. 50/50 travel expenses. Plan on leaving thursday morning, but a little flexible.

I've been thinking a mid-winter ride would be cool,then got up this morning to 2 below 0.That's got to be some kind of sign. I'm in.

I'm also thinking abour coming down, but can't figure out the whole camping thing. Are we camping at the RV park? Showers? Toilets? Instructions not clear. I was in Shoshone last year when this was going on. Looked like fun on the big bikes, just need a bit more info...:deal

I believe there are a few RV hookups at the campground, from what i could gather...the camping is primarily tent sites. There are facilities with showers and toilets from what I read. Looking forward the the event...not so much the 1000 mile drive to get there. See y'all in a few weeks!

I just googled the Lakeside RV park- it looks like showers,toilets,etc. Some pretty good reviews EXCEPT slow wi-fi and poor cable.I might have to rethink this adventure ride....

This is nancy here from AltRider and I'll answer any of your questions. It is primarily an RV park and they do not usually have campers. However, we arranged a deal with them to camp on grassy spots and have reserved many RV spaces in one area so we have an entire area for our event. Some people will be bringing in their RV's but for the most part, about 80% of people are camping. There will be showers, toilets and even a pool -- not sure how good that pool is.

Anybody else have any questions? I'd be happy to answer them!

I was there last year and had a GREAT time! AltRider is good people! Sadly I can't make the date work this year. We're heading for Mesquite tomorrow for a week of desert riding!

Wow. Curious to see how it does in the sand...what tires are you running?

Not going to make it. My motor didn't get to me until monday afternoon.
