2005 Parts swap to newer model
Have an 05 1200GS with a remus exhaust, hardbags, and ohlins front and rear. She has a fair amount of miles 112,000 and I am looking a newer model. Any one have ideas on is the latest model I can swap some of these parts on to? I figure the bags and mounts are probably universal.
Thanks for the input. |
05-12 will fit the listed items except the exhaust. For the exhaust you would need to go no newer than 2009. The Camhead (2010-2013 on some models 2013) has a different configuration.

Jim,
Thanks. I was looking at that year. They seem to offer the best bang for the buck with the initial depreciation. |
Jim,
Is the parts swap easy? I see on the new bikes they have a flapper/emmissions on the exhaust. My sport bike days were just a easy swap but some require a ECU update. Thanks. |

The exhaust is also easy. From 05 to 09 they are just a simple two bolt swap if just the muffler, and not much harder for a complete system swap. The 2010+ is the same with the flapper valve adding a bit of complexity. Of course the 05-09 is not at all compatible with the 2010+ bikes. For all exhaust swaps there is no need for a computer reprogram as the computer will self adjust. This is the main reason why total power is little effected by an exhaust swap on an R1200, though it might move the peak HP up or down the rev range. Jim :brow |
