Differences between 950 ADV crash bars.?

Lookign at my options,, I notice most are the same general design, except the happy trails,, and the SWmotechs that ONLY fit up to 06 950's Any opinions on the SWmotechs They look to me like they would protect the upper fairing a bit more, and they are about 75 bucks cheaper than the KTM, or Ohters..

Thoughts ?

The ECU on the 990 is below the headlight. 950 specific crashbars may use that area for a mount?

The SWs are a good product. I like that there is a flat bar that goes between the two sides for more support. I had to strain a little to get every thing together but it looks good and feels solid. There's a thread on here somewhere using studs instead of the bolts at the front bolting point; it's what I did and makes sense if you're going to be removing (like every time you do any maintenance) the crashbars.

Can you still get the SW-MOTECHs with upper fairing protection?

Cool. Nice to see you can still get them. I had them on my old 950 and liked the design a lot. Now that I'm looking at getting another 950, I'll add these to the list.

Do you think they are the same or different protection?
Any down side?

Having a cross bar that connects the two sides is essential for me. I personally wouldn't consider any that don't have this feature. (So that's the SWmotech on my 990) If you drop your bike regularly (i.e. ride off-road) anything else will get bent beyond usefulness in short order (I had the KTM bars without a cross bar that came with my bike when I bought it. One gentle set-down and they were pretty nearly impossible to re-mount).

My bike has been bashed, dropped, slid, and even dragged under the bumper of an SUV (I wasn't on it at the time), and my SWmotechs are still going strong (albeit with sweet scars!). That coupled with the DIY stud mods and I'm happy, and my tanks are flawless, at least the portions of them that are under the crash bars. :norton

at first I too wanted the upper fairing protection of the "old style" bars, but as far as I know you can't get them anymore. The lower style seems to work just fine, but I'm kinda jealous of those huge roll-cages. A no-go for the 990 anyway because of the ECU under the headlight.
