International Drivers Licenses

Good afternoon all

Our international licences from NZ are due to expire 30 March, we still have our NZ proper drivers licence so do we need to get more international licences?

Pretty much everywhere we have been they only want out NZ proper licence so what to do for CA and SA?

Any good advice welcome on this front.

Cheers all.

Only time I needed mine was for Brazil coming in from the North at VZ and it must be accompanied with a non expired US license, I was more than surprised when mine only had six days left:eek1 when I last entered Brazil. I find it very easy to modify the dates on the front of the two that we use from the US, just saying:lol3

I always give it out if I'm stopped for whatever reason by roadside cops and keep my state license out of site as I have a couple extra copies of those two different types of international licenses we have from the US.

I don't think I ever showed mine once.

My understanding of the IDLs issued here in the US is that they are essentially a translation of your reg license in multiple languages, hence the need to still have your regular license.
Your NZ license, in English presumably, should be be fine in Canada, US or even SA.

I think we will just continue on our Kiwi licences by the sounds of that.

I am pretty sure Mexico cannot issue NZ licences anyway :D

No one has yet figured out how to predict when you'll need an IDP: I needed mine only in Guyana, while Mr. Throttlemeister claimed only in Brazil and others say never.... I've also needed mine in Ghana, but only once in a half-dozen trips there. Current law says you need one in Florida (USA), too, although it probably wouldn't amount to anything until some cop got irritated with you.

It's not a complicated document, and would not be difficult to manufacture. No one's suggesting doing so, of course.
